Difficult for Kevin this one the impending approach to the B&I Cup games of which we have two after the Newcastle game.
Read somewhere sometime ago that this was not a priority and therefore the inference was that the “main” squad would be rested. Considering the way results have gone and the team needing as much opportunity as possible to bed in to its patterns, could there be a change of tack?
We’ve two of on paper, the toughest league fixtures coming up back to back where we’ll be doing ever so well to get any sort of result. Therefore it maybe prudent for the coaching team to use these two matches as a development opportunity and field the first 15. Know it has risks with injuries etc but I think the benefits to team and morale building would be worth that risk. After all players can just as easily be crocked in training and winning is a habit.
P.S. Has anyone noticed that Bedwas are currently riding high in third place in the Welsh premisership and proving a real surprise package. Perhaps the result over there was better than we thought at the time!
I wouldn't play the entire 1st XV but I would like to see certain pairings (e.g. Hayter and King, Powell and Lockley) played in one of the games with opportunities for others to get some match time
There is a chance this year that the B & I cup will at least pay for itself this year and I am sure that Kevin and Dave will put out the best available squads for the games. We need to start winning so I cannot see them putting out players just to give them a run out.
yep quite agree, the more game time a new squad has the better it will be. they can rest when the bad weather comes, after all its still early in the season. couple of wins against Gala would be good for the league matches.
