We are very sorry to report that J.D. Richards, former Moseley Player and MPA Member passed away on Sunday 22nd July.
Jack Richards was born in the Rhondda Valley in March 1921. He was educated at Pentre Secondary School where his best friend was Billy Cleaver, later to become full back for Cardiff, Wales and the Lions. He joined the RAF in 1936 and became a Wartime Lancaster Pilot in 90 Squadron Bomber Command.
He came to Birmingham after the War and joined Moseley where he played for the remainder of the 1940’s as a Front Row Forward. He returned to Wales in 1950 and the family eventually moved to London.
This began a strong family tie with the club as he is he is the father of John Richards, former Moseley Player, Vice President, Shareholder and current Chairman of Moseley Oak and Grandfather of Jack Richards, who has played at Moseley since the age of six and who will be captaining Moseley Oak for the 3rd year this season.
He regularly visited the club until 2010 and was a member for over 50 years after joining in the 1940’s. He was a member of the Moseley Players Association which he joined in its inaugural year.
His funeral will take place in Enfield on 10th August before his final journey back to the Rhonnda.
Sincere condolences from all at Moseley to J.R. (John), Jack and all members of the Richards family.
