With the demise of Wasps a concern for the rugby community and particularly the players and staff at the club, Adam Balding is pleased to be able to welcome Ashley Johnson back to the club. He will re-join as defence and scrum coach, complimenting lineout and breakdown coach, Rob Fuller.
During his previous time at the club Ashley played a huge part in making the pack one of the most formidable in the league. His presence around the club was inspirational to junior and senior players alike.
Adam was happy to see Ashley pursue his coaching career back with Wasps as Senior Academy Transition Coach and it is disappointing for him to have that opportunity curtailed. The door was open for Ashley to return to Birmingham Moseley and we are delighted to give him the opportunity to continue in his coaching role.
Joining Ashley from Wasps with immediate effect is experienced back row forward, Ben Morris. Ben, 6ft 2in and 17 stone is a versatile flanker able to play both blind and openside. He has also featured in the second row.
Ben began his playing career in 2013/2014 with Newcastle Falcons Academy while studying at Newcastle University. He spent a period on loan in The Championship at Rotherham Titans before moving to Nottingham for the 2015/2016 season. It was here where his impressive performances drew the attention of Wasps coach at the time, Dai Young, where he signed in 2018.
Ben was a very committed member of the Wasps squad making 56 appearances. Lee Blackett, Wasps coach, showing his support for Ben, extended his contract at the start of the 2022/2023 season.
Adam Balding said “ I am very pleased to be able to bring both Ashley and Ben to Billesley Common. As well as offering them both the opportunity to continue in rugby during this difficult time for them personally, it also brings Premiership experience to the club which will be of enormous value both on and off the field.”
