Birmingham Moseley today confirmed the signing of dynamic back row Suvwe Obano from Nottingham along with the retention of fellow back rows Will Safe and Batsirai Zindi.
Highly regarded Suvwe comes to the club after spells at Championship clubs Nottingham and Ampthill, plus time at Loughborough University where he was top try scorer in 2020. A powerful ball carrier he is equally at home in the No8 and No6 shirts. Nineteen stone Suvwe, brother of England prop Ben, will bring a major physical presence to the pack.
Suvwe said of his signing:
“What attracted me to the club was it has always been a top side. When I first started playing rugby they were in the Championship and I'd love to be part of the team that gets us back there.
I have been in chats with Adam for a while and he's a great salesman, so has kept me warm with annual touchpoints for about 3 years until we was able to close an agreement to come to the club.
My goals for the coming season are to help the team win promotion and to play in every single game, as an integral part of the squad.”
Last season’s first XV captain Will Safe will have a point to prove as his impressive first season with the club was cut short by injury in December. A versatile back row who can cover all three positions, Will has brought extensive Championship experience to the club, helping to develop the performance of the pack around him.
A player always sure to make an impression when he takes to the field is Batsirai Zindi, the all action No7. Batsirai made ten appearances last season, impressing supporters with his workload and commitment in defense.
Director of Rugby Adam Balding said of the signings:
“I am very pleased that Will has committed to the club for next season, he brings a high level of professionalism and leadership to the squad. Batsirai has emerged into National One rugby last season and there is a lot more to come from him. As an out and out open side he offers us great options for the style of rugby we can play. Suvwe is a great athlete and has a great character. I look forward to what he will add to the squad.”
