Director of Rugby, Adam Balding today confirmed contract extensions of 3 key players in the front row.
All 3 hookers have pledged their commitment to a pack that has become renowned as a dominant force in National 1.
Ryan Roach re-joined the club for the Covid curtailed 2020/2021 season following a short stay at Ealing Trailfinders. Ryan is yet another product of Cardiff Met University where in 2016 he captained the side, signing for Birmingham Moseley the next season.
Ryan was keen to make his mark at the club again but was forced out for much of the season by a long term injury.
He fought his way back to full fitness in time to make his 50th appearance for the club at the Sale game in April. Despite his playing curtailment, his rugby skills have not been wasted, he has used his experience in joining Birmingham Moseley’s Women's team as assistant coach.
Joining Ryan is Sam Mc Nulty, Sam ably stepped into Ryan’s shoes when he was forced out by injury. Sam has the skills to bolster the front row as well as using his mobility skills in the loose. Sam has experience in both the front and back row and his versatility will be welcome in what is always a competitive season in National 1.
The third signing is J C Genade. J C came from South Africa with the aim of resurrecting his playing career following a successful period playing for the Boland club. He joined up with Moseley Oak and his talents were quickly spotted and soon became part of the first team squad.
As is the nature of playing in the attritional position of hooker, injuries to other players gave him the opportunity to very quickly gain experience in third tier rugby.
J C made the seamless transition which has firmed his place in the squad.
Adam Balding said “ Keeping the front row together has been important to ensure we have the strength in depth we need. Having the commitment from these three players gives us the option to rotate in a position vital to the performance of the scrum.”
