Director of Rugby Adam Balding today announced that Harry Butler, Harry Barnes and Max Ayling will be powering the boiler room of the pack next season.
Harry Butler joined the club last season from Hartpury. Scotland U20 international Harry, a product of the London Irish Academy, made 23 appearances as first choice second row. As well as providing lineout ball via his 6’ 6” frame Harry has proved to be equally adept at close quarter defence.
Harry Barnes will be looking to build on a very successful first season of rugby at National One level. Second Row Harry is a prime example of how hard work, and a considerable element of skill, can see a player progress. Harry joined the club in 2019 from Coventry College Rugby Academy, as a Senior Academy player for the club. As part of this development Harry spent time with Moseley Oak refining his craft. Despite the long gap in rugby due to the Pandemic Harry was given an opportunity in the first team squad and grasped it making thirteen starts in sixteen appearances.
Proving you don’t have to be called Harry to play second row for the club Max Ayling joins on a permanent basis from Jersey Reds. 6’ 7” Max came to the club in March on a loan arrangement from the Channel Islands club making five appearances and immediately made an impact at lineout time. We are pleased he has made a decision to remain at the club for 2022/23.
Adam Balding said: “I am very pleased to see the Harry’s with us for another season and to have secured the services of a high calibre line out performer in Max. Harry Butler has brought significant experience form Championship rugby to the team, and I am sure will be a key leader for the new season. I am particularly excited to see how the club has offered a rapid development opportunity to Harry Barnes, who has jumped from college rugby to National One in effectively two seasons. I cannot wait to see how he will progress in 2022/23.”
