RFU Championship
Moseley v Leeds Carnegie
Saturday 7th January, 3pm kick off at Billesley Common B13
“Which Moseley side will turn up to play Leeds on Saturday?”
Moseley welcomes last year’s Aviva Premiership side, Leeds Carnegie, to Billesley Common this Saturday (7th January, 3pm kick off) on the back of an outstanding victory at third placed London Welsh last weekend. This was even more creditable as twelve changes had been made to the line up following injuries and suspensions.
In the ‘away leg’ at Headingly in October, Moseley held a 21-19 lead with seconds to play, only to go down 22-21 in a ‘last play’ Leeds penalty. However as the Yorkshire club has improved markedly since then and notched up some notable wins, this will be a tough encounter.
Moseley’s form has been patchy at times but three victories have been obtained against top three sides with the defeats of league leaders Bristol home and away before the visit to London Welsh last weekend. It is form at home which has been mixed and the aim this Saturday will be to put all that right with a home win.
Currently lying in 9th place in the RFU Championship the South Birmingham side will be pushing to gain the best position for the end of season playoffs and close the twelve point gap on 8th placed Doncaster – another side beaten at Billesley Common this season.
There are only six games remaining in the ‘regular’ Championship season (three home and three away) and, after the Leeds game, only Plymouth (Friday 27th January kick off 7.30pm), and Bedford (Saturday 18th February) remain to be entertained at Billesley. There is much to play for on Saturday in what promises to be an intriguing game.
