Harry O’Brien departs Birmingham Moseley to rejoin Kenilworth



Birmingham Moseley Rugby announce the immediate departure of Full Back Harry O’Brien, by mutual consent, to re-join his former club Kenilworth.


Since Harry joined the club for the 2019/2020 season from Birmingham Solihull he has proved to be a loyal and hardworking squad member, but has found it difficult to secure a regular 1st XV starting place.


Director of Rugby Adam Balding commented “I fully understand his decision to return to the club he started at as a mini & junior, to play rugby on a regular basis. We would like to wish Harry all the best for the rest of the season and I look forward to this being the start of a strong working relationship with Kenilworth in future seasons.”

This is the issue when you have a large squad, but this season we have needed one what with injuries and Covid and we still need to get players on loan.
I wonder if we have any squad members out on loan apart from those who are playing for Oak.

As we understand squad players out on loan, such as those at Oak, are generally young players recently out of college/colts rugby who are seen to need more experience in lower leagues before they are a regular option for 1st XV rugby. This is part of the overall player development pathway and it could be detrimental to expose players to ND1 before they are ready. They are considered part of the first XV squad to allow them to train with regular 1st XV players and indeed some may prove they have the ability to step up as the season progresses.

We do know that the management is very aware of the challenges to the squad due to injuries etc and are working hard to address.
