I saw the message about the scoreboard in Dave Warren's letter. I think this will be a great addition. Is the plan to relocate it? I'm wondering because the low winter sun will hit it in its present location and, being LED, might be unreadable at times.
Markd, the world sometimes is full of sensible types. Good idea to think about this issue now! I was thinking , looking from the main stand to the right, 90 degree corner old stand/playing fields end, in other words same side, but at the other corner of the pitch perimeter. Got to admit I cant remember exactly remember where/when the sun disappears behind the back of the new stand (west) in the winter?! This is not a memory issue, merely the lack of sunshine we have adopted at the Club usually throughout the Winter months with high winds, driving rain, snow blizards, being an essential part of our tactics, which don't always work, I may add!
About 4 years ago, MPA proposed such a scoreboard to celebrate its 50th anniversary but, after lengthy research and discussions with the club, it was agreed that re-surfacing the car park was more important!
However, discussions with DW were sufficiently advanced to agree that it should be sited in the other corner as per grooveavenue's response, despite concerns about vandalism - although that's a risk anywhere! I have a meeting this evening at which two directors will be present and will take the opportunity to reinforce the argument.
As to the car park, after it was finished, I overheard a cynic saying that "it won't last more than one winter like that"! Still looks ok to me!
I did discuss the location with Club director Robin Johnson on Monday evening. The scoreboard will be sited in the corner where the existing one is. The two principal reasons are that the other corner would be an obvious target for vandals whereas, in the existing corner, it will be much easier to safeguard; and the cost of extending electricity to the other corner would be prohibitive.
It will be securely protected when not in use and I have to agree that the arguments for that location are impossible to disagree with. There is no doubt that it will be a great asset and a major step forward in the ongoing improvements to our stadium.
