Birmingham Moseley add pace and power

Birmingham Moseley Rugby is pleased to announce that through a season long loan agreement with Hartpury University RFC two more players will be joining the 1st XV Squad.

The first player is no stranger to Billesley Common as James Forrester made two appearances for the club towards the end of the 2019/20 season. Primarily a centre James brings great versatility to the back line, as was demonstrated by him ably filling the number 15 shirt against Plymouth Albion last season. We are sure the England Students & Zimbabwean 7s international would have made more appearances in red and black had not the season finished early. A player of real pace, James will bring an elusive quality to the three-quarters.

A player who will bring more of a physical presence than elusiveness to the pitch is 6’ 8” 19 stone Second Row Rob Fuller. After starting his career at Gloucester Rob moved to Hartpury for the 2018/19 season and made his Championship debut against Coventry. A towering presence in the lineout and a destructive ball carrier Rob will provide real drive to the engine room of the pack.

The addition of James and Rob to the Birmingham Moseley ranks is a clear example of a relationship between clubs in different leagues which is beneficial to both of the teams and the players, as the two Hartpury men will gain from the opportunity of experiencing competitive rugby in the National One league and allow the Championship outfit to expand their development of squad members.

We look forward to seeing both of them when the season starts.

Great to see season long loans rather than coming in doing well for us then taken straight back again as happened last in past seasons

The squad is building nicely. I think we may need a couple more locks, a couple more in the back row (no specialist 8 yet, AFAICS), another SH and a FH or two. But I'm sure Adam is working on this.

We are sure management are looking at how the squad will be completed, as Adam mentioned previously the club will not be rushing to sign players, but will be ensuring we find players with the right skills and attitude to fit in.

It's worth pointing out that we do have pretty strong cover at fly half and scrum half already with Jack Combes, Jack Jolly & Sam Pointon all covering SH and Ben Palmer, Ollie Allsopp, Elliot Creed, Ravai Fatiaki & Harry O'Brien all able to operate at FH. In such a tough league as ND1 player versatility is a strong asset and through astute recruitment it is something the club are building on.

You're quite right about player versatility, but I'm just worried about when the injuries start to impact availability. Anyway, I'm sure Adam will make the right decisions.

Are there any more signings imminent? Think we still need to strengthen the back row and in an ideal world another second row all depending on finances available obviously

I like the loan system if we have the player for whole season. The D/R system has never worked for us imo. You can have the player in training then taken on a Friday by a parent club due to injuries.

I thought the DR system worked well in the first couple of seasons, when the likes of Adams, Norton, Roberts, Sharples & Trinder played for us on a regular basis.

Given that the first match is now scheduled for October 3rd. (let's hope there isn't another delay) can I assume that there will be further announcements on player signings?

Where is that information. On Rolling Maul they are talking December or January start.

Latest from the RFU's Community Game Update...

"There will be no competitive rugby restart in October for adult rugby unless there is a dramatic improvement in the prevalence of the virus in the community."

The next announcement about when league rugby may commence for these levels will be on 2 October.

As the RFU have only just made their latest announcement, the website is yet to be updated Andy.

We have been moving matches back based on RFU announcements within the first window that still assumes a full season of games (postponed games in first batch of home & away games were to be tagged on to end of 15th fixture in same order). Depending on RFU next announcement of start date we could move to a totally different format of season. 

The latest RFU statement says:

we can confirm that there will be no competitive rugby restart in October for adult or age grade rugby unless there is a dramatic improvement in the prevalence of the virus in the community.

AND

The adult league season (Level 3 & below for men, Level 2 & below for women) will not commence in October.

So take your pick as to if that's a no or a maybe?

We are trying to represent as best as we can possible fixtures but please don't assume accuracy until we confirm based on an RFU statement we can understand.

At present all is speculation
