“MOSELEY: THE IRISH ARE COMING!”

British & Irish Cup
Saturday 17th December, Moseley v Munster,
Billesley Common, Birmingham B 13; 2pm kick off

This Saturday Billesley Common will welcome Munster, the Irish Provincial side which the local Gaelic contingent considers to be ‘the glamour club of rugby football’.

This is the final match in the British & Irish Cup pool stages and both sides will be looking for a win to progress through to the quarter finals.

Both Moseley and Munster are currently on nine points having lost only one match each in the competition so far - Moseley at Cross Keys and Munster against Cornish Pirates.

Moseley will be buoyed by ‘back to back’ wins in the RFU Championship and will be keen to impress at home in front of what promises to be a bumper crowd.

The home players will also want to maintain the momentum going into the home Boxing Day game against London Scottish - so a strong side is anticipated.

Billesley Common is geared up to entertain what promises to be the biggest crowd of the season so far. A whole host of activities have been prepared to make the Irish feel at home and to give the locals a treat.

Local Irish band Ricochet (along with Irish dancers) will be playing live at half time and after the match in the clubhouse. A Guinness stand has been especially erected and there will be the usual Christmas cheer with mulled wine available.

Moseley take on Irish giants Munster

British & Irish Cup: Moseley v Munster
Saturday 17th December, 2.00pm kick off at Billesley Common, Birmingham

Moseley go into this B&I cup match against Irish provincial giants Munster with a side much-changed from that which beat Esher last weekend in the Championship. In the front row both props get a rest after a run of matches and their places are taken by Anton O’Donnell and Colin Quigley.

The experienced Richard Stott comes back at lock, and in the back row Michael Maltman and Charlie Thomas get their first starts for a while alongside Michael Ellery.

Ryan de la Harpe takes the scrum-half berth, and in the three-quarter line Mike Gillick, Callum McBurnie and Sam Brown all get opportunities to impress. At full-back the Moseley coaches will be running their eyes over Glynn Hughes, a dual-registered England Academy player from Northampton, who makes his debut.

With a big Irish community in Birmingham there is much local interest in this match and a good turn-out is expected for what should be an open, attractive affair.

Doesn't look a bad side. If things go wrong the bench looks good enough to help out. It might not be a competition we really want to be in but we are in it so might as well do our best. The team are also playing for places in the 1st XV so I think will give a good account of themselves. Lets get behind them and help make it 3 wins in a row. There is nothing like consistency for keeping up moral. Wouldn't it be nice if we could give the likes of Peter Stringer a shock?
