Moseley back home at last!
After three week’s ‘on the road’ Moseley return to their Billesley Common home for three games in December including the much anticipated visits of Munster on Saturday 17th December (2pm) and London Scottish on Boxing Day (Monday 26th December 3pm).

Despite a poor run away from home some highlights have been achieved, most eye catching is Aussie winger Brad Hunt’s hat trick at Nottingham last weekend – though on the wrong side of a heavy defeat. This brings Brad’s total to 5 this season after a promising start was interrupted by injury but last Sunday at Nottingham he indicated his dangerous form has returned.

December promises to be a fruitful month when they aim to continue their home form following their last performance when they beat league leaders Bristol last time out.

First up – Doncaster on Saturday 3rd December (3pm ko at Billesley Common)
The visitors this Saturday are Doncaster in the return leg of a fixture Moseley felt unlucky not to get something out of going down 29-21 at Castle Park in September.

Kick at goal to win £50,000!

"Doncaster Knights scrum-half Lee Audis has been seriously injured in a car accident and is currently on a life support machine. Lee’s parents are in contact with the Club and we will pass on any change in Lee’s condition that the family wishes to share publicly.

The Club has extended its support to the Audis family and stands ready to assist as and when requested. Everyone associated with the Club is hoping Lee pulls through and our thoughts and prayers are with Lee, his family and friends.

Mr and Mrs Audis have passed a message to Brett Davey recognising that Doncaster Knights squad are a tight group and asking that the squad pull together and play for Lee."

After last week’s disastrous showing at Nottingham, Moseley face Doncaster tomorrow with just two changes to the starting line-up. Ollie Thomas, injured in training, gives way at fly-half to Brad Davies, whilst Greg King returns in the centre at the expense of Jack Adams.

Doncaster achieved a narrow victory at Castle Park back in September so the Birmingham side will be seeking revenge at their own ground. Coach Kevin Maggs said “After last week’s poor showing I am looking for a big performance tomorrow.”

Started really well, playing up hill & into (cross) wind. Looked up for it, off loading pretty well. Ellery broke away & ran in another long distance try to go 5-0. What turned out to be a critical conversion, was extremely odd from Brad Davies it was pretty close, but don't know if he mis-hit or tried to drill into wind. But it lobbed slowly towards posts, hit the bar, went staight up in the air ( i was standing parrallel) & like a net cord in tennis just dropped over for 2.

Going in 7 -5 up was excellent, countless times Doncaster looked in, but last ditch tackles - kept them to only 1 unconverted try. Dons flyhalf never looked confident & missed a few other attempts.

Second half, when we waited for the Moes bandwagon to charge down the hill, didn't really happen. Dons must have had possession for 80% of second half, but the boys tackled again again & again - so Dons couldn't get away & moving into last few minutes were only 5 ahead.

Finally got some field posssession - Ryan shot off back of scrum, I thought he was in, but put Andy Reay over under the sticks. I thought Brad might try his party trick & hit the bar again - but another 2 were enough.

Really brilliant win Moes well done. I will be interested on other comments to see if we deserved but who cares !

Well if that doesn't get De La Harpe back where he should be , starting the game i don't know what else he can do. Think from the moment he came on the pitch the lads woke up and finally came together like we know they can.

Donny certainly dominated the second half in terms in possession, but they didn't score, credit must go to our defence for that. Great winning score, created by Ryan - think he deserves a start next game ?

A lot of character shown yesterday after last weeks debacle. Not a great game to watch as a spectator but a really gutsy performance from the team. Having said that I'll gladly take a few 'ugly' wins anytime.

Thought our front row and centres were outstanding today and that Pennycook worked tirelessly as usual.

Maltman looks hungry when he comes on and needs to rotate more with Ellery and Mason.

Terrific win. If we can keep our concentration there is no reason why we cannot see off Esher and London Scottish.

A great win, and well-deserved. The defence was outstanding and the team effort a joy to watch. Well played Mose!

A truly gutsy performance and amazing that our terrific tackling kept Doncaster pretty much at bay when they enjoyed so much possession in the second half. Lots of plus points too - scrum achieved parity - plus one outrageous push that shoved Doncaster off their own ball; whole team supported each other throughout, with players queueing up to tackle; great opportunist try from Ellery and lovely little break from De La Harpe to put Rea in; and just sheer, bloody mindedness built from belief that if the team kept its head it could sytill grind out a win, however ugly. Last two home games - Bristol and Doncaster - had a totally different feel, but both were thoroughly deserved wins. Keep it up lads!

The difference for me was the return of Greg King who organises the defence and puts his body on the line every time. I dare say there was some defence practice during the week after last week and this is perhaps why we lost our attacking flair of the last few games - wingers did not get enough ball in space.

Mason seems to have gone off the boil a little since the start of the season and Maltman must be pushing for a starting place.

I still think we are a little quiet as a team.

It was a good example of winning ugly yesterday so well done to all involved.

But what I don't understand is why, in the second half playing down the slope and having been a creditable 7-5 points ahead at the break, we only had 20% possession? For one thing our scrum's better than it has been and we have had more ball in other matches, so why did this happen? Is it loose play and should our resolute defence be creating more turnovers? Do we not have a proper open side who can do this? It is great edging an excellent win by doggedness but scoring more points than the opposition is what creates wins and if we only have 20% of the ball, then we will have limited opportunities to do this in the future.

One point about Wagg, he has had the shadow of that quite unnecessary citing hanging over his head for the past couple of weeks which may have affected his performance. Agree about Greg King, his absence was a primary reason for the dreadful Notts performance and his presence in defence yesterday was major factor in the win.

Just to put these comments into perspectiev and as I said earlier, it was a great win not only for the manner of the defence but for the fact that we came back to win. That showed character. Now can we please carry this through into our next few matches and give us the Christmas present all true Moseley peope want from Santa!

Just to add my two penn'orth, we won that because of what we did when the other side had the ball. First-up tackling was generally pretty good, and their much-vaunted No 6, who their supporters said would take three players to down him and still make ground was not quite as good as that, plus he gave away a 3-pointer for holding on. That's not to say the defence was perfect, after all they got two tries, just as we did, but we never made it easy to gain ground.

Nice to see that some other teams are as prone to handling errors as we can be!
