We are very sorry to report that Dave Bucknall, a stalwart of the Club and long-standing member of the Association, who was admired with affection by very many Moseley people, collapsed and died whilst on a cycle ride near his home on Sunday 7th June.
The funeral arrangements will be posted here when they are known.
Meanwhile, our sincere condolences go to Dave's wife Moya and all members of his family.
David’s funeral will take place on Tuesday 23rd June at 1.00 pm at Alvestson Church (near Stratford upon Avon). There will also be a service of memorial in Birmingham in September.
The family know that a lot of people will want to attend and have said that everyone is welcome to either the funeral or the memorial, but the Church in Alveston is not huge and will be reserved for close family and friends. Therefore if people attend they may be standing, or not even be able to get into the Church. The wake will be in the local pub – which is big.
David’s daughter Julia’s advice is that the funeral is for people who are mourning David and the memorial is for those who want to show their respect.
If you are planning to attend the funeral, please let Julia know (see below) – as she would like a rough idea of numbers.
Julia also made a particular request. For the funeral she will be compiling some “Boards of Remembrance” and she would like any photographs of David – particularly old photos – and also any anecdotes or stories.
If you will be attending the funeral or would like to send your condolences, or a photograph or anecdote please send them directly to Julia Bucknall by e-mail: email@example.com.
We suspect that only David's closest Moseley friends will be attending the funeral and that many more will want to be at the memorial service in September. Details of that will be posted here nearer the time.
Finally, we add that any such anecdotes, tributes or other memories relating to Dave's exceptional rugby career at Moseley will also be welcome as contributions to our own tribute, which will apear in 'Moseley Matters' in due course. Please forward to Peter Veitch - contact details in the MPA section of the website.
