MOSELEY RUGBY CLUB *****PRESS RELEASE****** 09- Sep -2011
“Moseley add power to the engine room as David Lyons re-signs”
Moseley Rugby Club has pleasure in welcoming the re-signing of 2nd row David Lyons to add strength in depth to the pack.
The powerful lock earned an excellent reputation last season making twenty-five starts and scoring two tries.
Having missed pre-season and with Moseley currently having a fully fit set of 2nd rows for match days, David will spend three weeks on loan at Gloucester. He will not only assist with the Cherry and White own current injury/unavailability problems but also gain match fitness in the premiership before returning to Billesley.
David originally joined Moseley on loan from Worcester in the 2009-10 season before signing permanently for the 2010/11 campaign becoming a supporters' favourite both in the loose and the tight.
David made his premiership debut against Harlequins at Twickenham Stoop during the 2008/09 season.
Date of birth: 10th May 1985 Birthplace: Wolverhampton Height: 1.98 m (6' 6") Weight: 115 kg (18st 0lb) Former Clubs: Worcester, Coventry, Moseley
Fantastic news. David was a real powerhouse for us last season, and although the locks did well last week, strength in depth is vital, and Stotty isn't getting any younger.
Yes - great news. Even if we have him for a few games it will increase competition in the squad and provide options to rest players knowing that the team should not be weakened whilse also covering for injuries. Goldspot correctly makes the point that lack of depth may have cost us last season and this should at least keep everyone fresh and motivated. I love the bit about us loaning him to Glos for match fitness. Even if its not quite an accuarate interpretation, "he may be OK for the Premiership now but he's not quite ready for Moseley yet"! That's more like it!!!

VVVVVVV good news. I was surprised to hear that David had not secured a Prem contract. A nice little warm up for him in the pampered world of AP rugby and then back to the real hard stuff in October. Great competetion for places throughout the squad now and serious cover for injuries. We now have the prospect of seind subs used to up the tempo in the latter stages of a game with the quality we can bring off the bench. Well doe "the management", again!
Have I read this right, the Moseley press release suggests after the initial 3 week period David Lyons becomes a Moseley player, his interview above suggests he is a Gloucester player for 2 months and maybe loaned to Mose whenever possible. After this it sounds as though he will look for a contract elsewhere.

Mr S. - the club press release is the correct version! David has signed a 'normal' playing contract with Moseley (not with Gloucester) . Moseley and Glos have signed a loan contract loaning David from Moseley to Gloucester for three weeks.
While I agree that David Lyons is a decent player I cannot help but think he has his own agenda away from Moseley and this whole weird set up will only be a distraction to the rest of the squad. I'm of the view that players are with us or they are not.
“In the time I have between the two clubs I will do my best for which ever side I am playing for and we’ll see if I can find anything else off the back of that.
I can see where you're coming from Rich, but on the basis that he is 'cover' then he'll have to play well to a/ get in and b/ if he doesretain his place against Sanderson, Spivey & Stott.
So think we (mose) are probably up in the arrangement
I think you are right Observer, even if he does have his own agenda he needs to get selected and play well if he going to a deal elsewhere, this can only benefit us.
The key thing is that we have some excellent cover if we need it from a player who is firstly contracted to us and who knows our guys. Stotty is not yet back to full fitness and it is great to have a player of that calibre in our squad and getting some match fitness to be ready to fit in as and when needed. I heard that the only way he can eventualy go would be to a Premiership or magners league club and with players returning from the World Cup in a month or so chances opportunities there would be seem limited. I think this an astute move by our management and I would be delighted to see him with us for as long as possible.
