Moseley Oak 88 Aston Old Edwardians 0

Moseley Oak soundly defeated Aston Old Edwardians at Billesley Common on Saturday 9th November with the scores from the Moseley 1st XV victory against Nottingham ringing in their ears.

The signs were encouraging after 3 minutes saw Dan Lavander move left, pass on to Jack Richards who beat his man and put Rob Holden in for the first try converted by Chris Carlin.

Two minutes later a score from Jack McLaren made it 14 -0.

Eventually further tries from Chris Carlin (5),Charley Thomas (2), Jack Richards, Guy Michels, Rob Holden and James Frost along with 10 conversions saw a final a score of 88-0.

In fairness, Aston Old Eds have lost a number of players to other clubs this season and currently have a number of injuries and to their immense credit never gave up.

Tough fixtures coming up for Moseley against Crewe and Nantwich, Bridgnorth and Camp Hill which will show exactly how far they have come.

Wait a minute...........can we ever trust a cricket scorer?! The Oak players at the Moz match said it was 90 -0. Have to admit they were rather modest in their victory and an old buzzard like me mis heard it first time around as 19-0! So who got it right players or Comms Team - points scored may make a big difference at seasons end!!?

As you know Grooveavenue, the ref is always right and he said 88..........I made it 13 tries and 11 conversions which comes to......errr 88 sir....ish...but then again I didn't have a paper & pen to write scores down.

Oh! Communications Team. When did you ever trust a cricket umpire.............I mean Rugga Ref, Just have to wait to see highlights on BBC!

..........However if Oak fail promotion by 2 scored points - if we are equal on table points - on whatever way they were achieved - its close at the top of the table - we may wish to revisit I suggest. Ageed!

I agree that it could ultimately come down to fine margins but the reality is the result as posted on the RFU website as 88-0 is the official result. This will be as agreed and signed off by both sides and the Refferee and submitted to the RFU registrar.

The initial confusion, I suspect was down to it being a high score that was initially miscounted and reported to the registrar by telephone (all results must be called into the registrar by 5pm on matchday so is generally done at pitchside whereas the matchcard will be agreed and signed in the clubhouse after everyone has showered and changed etc). The telephoned results are what get initially posted but are then subject to change when the official macthcard as signed by all parties is submitted, you will note the RFU website originally stated 90-0 and was subsequently altered to 88-0.
