TAMWORTH 5 – MOSELEY OAK 48


Moseley Oak won an important away game at Tamworth on Saturday 2nd March in some style, scoring 7 tries in the process.

The early exchanges were even and after 12 minutes Tamworth conceded a penalty at the scrummage. The ball was kicked to the corner and an Andy Ford catch at the lineout led to a driving ball with Charley Thomas scoring. The try was converted.

Five minutes later, after another penalty, Moseley chose to kick to touch and a scrappy lineout led to Dan Pons taking the ball to the blind side chipping through and scoring. The try was unconverted.

Five minutes later, a series of forward drives led to fast possession. Jon Perks made a break in midfield and Nash Maphosa was on hand to score close to the posts. Pons converted the try.

Five minutes before the break, a series of penalties conceded by Tamworth led to Moseley having good field position. A lovely outside break by Dai Evans led the ball being offloaded to Chas Meddick who scored to take the score to 24 – 0.

The final play of the first half saw Moseley Oak concede a penalty. Tamworth kicked for the corner, won the lineout and after some forward drives scored an unconverted try to the left of the posts.

The second half began with a converted Moseley penalty and was followed a few minutes later by Dai Evans scoring after kicking through on the right. Eight minutes later, the match really was sealed when from a lineout drive Nash Maphosa powered his way over for a try to the right of the posts which was converted.

Moseley Oak’s final score in the second half took place after 21 minutes with a series of powerful runs from Charley Thomas led to a ruck on the left outside the Tamworth 22. Charley Thomas again appeared in the attacking line to put Dai Evans clear to score a converted try that took the final score to 48 – 5.

This result put Moseley Oak on top of the Division with Silhillians in second place having a game in hand.

Next Saturday Moseley Oak entertain Spartans, one of the two teams to have beaten them thus far this Season. Another convincing win is needed to keep promotion hopes alive.
