Moseley welcome Cornish Pirates to Billesley Common
For immediate release Tuesday 30th October 2012
Issued on behalf of Moseley Rugby
RFU Championship - Moseley v Cornish Pirates
Saturday 3rd November, 3.00pm KO @ Billesley Common
On Saturday Moseley will be welcoming Cornish Pirates to Billesley Common, for what is always an unpredictable but exciting fixture.
Moseley’s record against the West Countrymen in recent seasons has been good and the “never say die” attitude of Moseley’s young team bodes well for another entertaining encounter. Last season’s fixture at Billesley Common ended in a 27-27 draw with four tries for the home side earning a bonus point. The season before was also a draw – 26-26!
Two familiar faces will be welcomed back to Billesley. David Lyons (lock) joined Moseley in 2009 and made 53 appearances before moving to The Duchy over the summer whilst Ben Maidment (Back Row) made six appearances in the season before last.
Moseley’s leading points scorer Ollie Thomas made the move the opposite way for a season before returning to Billesley Common four seasons ago – and has since racked up a further 500 points.
Moseley’s last three games has seen two wins and a loss. However the team will be determined to take the B&I Cup form (wins over London Scottish and Llanelli) into the Championship this Saturday as opposed to the league performance that gave Doncaster a lead of 17 points last weekend before an impressive fight back fell short of victory at Castle Park.
This weekend’s visitors will be buoyed by a comprehensive 21 – 8 victory over Leeds last Sunday which moved the West Countrymen up six points ahead of Moseley in the league table. However there are only nine points separating Moseley from fourth place in what is turning out to be a very competitive season for all.
Moseley will need to work hard up front to nullify a powerful Pirates pack, and provide opportunities for the backs to break down a Pirates defence which has proved to be one of the meanest this season with only Newcastle and Nottingham having conceded less. The likes of Charlie Hayter and Simon Hunt will need to be on top form, and the possible return of Greg King to the centre will allow a more balanced look to the back line.
Tickets (£17 Adults to £3 Under 16s) are available on the gate. Only two hospitality boxes remain available for this fixture - enquiries welcomed.
