It's interesting to see that the excellent rolling maul forum votes still have us as quite possible relegation candidates, along with Jersey and Plymouth. This is a pivitol season for us and Kevin, no play off crap and Mr Maggs has for the first time I believe in his coaching role anywhere, got Carte Blanche to assemble a squad that he thinks can do a job with the funds available to him.
We will struggle I'm sure at times, that goes without question. We are out muscled financially by the majority of the clubs in the league, but if Maggsy can get the team firing early with self belief and bold rugby, potentially we could be lethal in the backs, not something Mose has been able to boast for a number of decades.
I like the shape of the squad, my worry is the lack of announcement of a vital forwards coach, Nigel Horton step up... Your club needs you :-)
I can quite understand that others may see a team that were in the relegation play offs last year as pre-season contenders for relegation.
Obviously pure speculation and gives something to do over the summer - however I would rather be under estimated for the first month than getting over hyped aka LS and Jersey!
Both these two sides (in partic) have made a song and a dance about new signings, but scratch beneath the PR and I can't really see many (any?) in the way of signings that will turn them from relegation contenders into mid table.
I am pretty optimistic for the coming season and have no doubts that Maggsy will assemble a squad quite capable of mid table plus a few surprises against the top 3 or 4.
Ale. The position was asked about the forwards coach at the AGM on Monday. They could not disclose who was being looked at because persons or persons were in the middle of being approached.
