According to Jerry Guscott (this weeks The Rugby Paper) the Premiership should be extended to 14 teams (to allow Bristol and Leeds to enter) and then relegation should be ended. The Championship would then "consist of Premiership clubs' second teams." When Leeds only manage a few thousand for their first team how many are going to watch their seconds?
This has to be the biggest load of b*$$*cks since Simon Amor thought LS and Esher were too good to be relegated from the Championship. Guscott justifies his stance on the basis that "people aren't coming up with any other solutions to improve the clubs secure a sustainable future for the English professional game." Perhaps he should look closer to home and consider whether it is the 'Premiership model' that is killing the game? Strange also how he thinks the enlarged league should include a recently promoted Champioship team now lying fourth in the 'Cartel Club'! Those advocating 'no relegation' could do worse than read the article on page 30 of the same paper from a Cross Keys player under the heading 'Promotion would give Welsh game a real lift'.
Denying hope and ambition is the quickest way to disaster.
Westcountry Mose, you have to remember these are the words out of a former hod carrier/ bricklayer, who has very little commercial acumen at all, that is why Bath have completely overlooked him in any way in their structure. Brilliant rugby player, not a bad pundit in cushioned surroundings, clueless in the structure and forward thinking of the game.
Also you have to remember his Bath loyalties - if Barf ever get relegated, the Wreck is way too far short of Prem facilities requirements to be allowed back in. So they can't be allowed to go down.
