Having secured another season of Championship Rugby, now is a good time to start taking stock of various aspects of the club before everyone disappears off to their summer preoccupations. Below is certainly not exhaustive, but a start.
First XV
Certainly a year of progress under the Maggs/West partnership. We started as one of the favourites to be in Pool C and that was absolutely certain after Boxing Day's dismal result against London Scottish (still time to make amends though!) In the regular season, 3 wins from 6 against our eventual Pool C opponents was simply not good enough. On the plus side, for the first time in several years, Mose were not a pushover for the Top 6 and wins against Bristol and at London Welsh showed what might be achievable for this club at this level.
At the of writing, Mose have won 9 of their 26 league fixtures and there were enough close results to suggest that 50% is not beyond the squad next season. We don't know the structure of next season yet, but with a well-funded Jersey looking likely to replace the likely to be relegated Esher, there will be no walkovers and bottom of the pile is also not impossible for Mose. What the games against Esher have shown is how well Mose can succeed if they start well.
We nearing the end of a long season, but other squads still seem to have that bit more fitness - although stamina has generally been good.
Facilities
I missed last July's meeting, but no progress is physically apparent on that front. We all know that this is vital to a sustainable future for the club and I do not doubt that efforts continue behind the scenes, but we desperately need to get the funding in before the pricing goes further out of reach. With attendances seemingly below last year, we definitely need to make progress soon.
Message Board
The designers did a great job, but, IMHO, the board has lacked debate this year. This is a pity because it was one of the liveliest message boards around (despite the vitriol towards Ian Smith).
So, over to everyone else to add, subtract, agree or dispute.
Come on Mose!
