Dynamic Back Row Duo Sign on for Another Two Seasons

Birmingham Moseley Rugby are pleased to announce that back row forwards Chris Brightwell & Jacques Le Roux are the first of this seasons squad to commit their future to the club.

Both players have signed two year extensions to their existing contracts which will see them play in red and black through to 2019.

Portuguese International Le Roux joined the club at the start of the season from Coventry. Leading the list of appearances, having played in every game for the team this season, Jacques has become a firm supporter’s favourite with his aggressive attacking charges never failing to make ground with ball in hand.

Number 8 Chris Brightwell will now rack up seasons five and six for the club joining the Billesley Common club in 2013 from the England Sevens team. The New Zealander has very much made Birmingham Moseley his adopted home and this season has successfully combined his rugby with his new role as a father. Having played 78 games for the club to date Chris should achieve the increasingly rare milestone of 100 appearances for one club thanks to his latest commitment to the Birmingham Moseley cause.

That two such high profile players have committed their future to the club, so early, is a clear testament to their belief in the future of Birmingham Moseley and a statement of the club’s intent to remain a force in National One rugby, while they continue to push for a return to the Championship. The vast experience of both players at the highest levels of the game will be vital to the club as it moves forward.

This is great news. I suppose any new signings from other clubs would not be announced until the end of the season , likewise if we are to lose players to other clubs.

Fabulous, absolutely fabulous news and so early in the season as well. AND they have both signed for two more seasons as well. Wouldn't it be even more fabulous if Chris and Jacques, with all their playing credentials, could persuade other players such as Jack Preece, George Oram and Aaron Crofts amongst the forwards, along with Ed Sheldon, Drew Cheshire, James Williams, Mike Penn, Alex Grove, Gregg King and Dave Brazier in the three quarters to sign new contracts. That would be a real boost for club moral next season in terms of attracting other promising players - particularly fit front row players - our main weakness area. They could even train - and play? - with the rugby league players during the summer. That would really get them fit as the proverbial butchers dog by the start of next season; they could even learn some good rugby league running support lines as well.

That is the best bit of pre-season good news I have heard for some considerable time.

I suppose in previous seasons when we were in a relegation fight,we could not look at retaining players until the final outcome.

I saw that on Rolling Maul yesterday, but didn't want to post it on here. Now someone else has..... I'm drawing some comfort from the fact that Chris and Jacques would have been in my "best four" anyway, so it's clearly not *that* accurate is it?

Anyway, see my "what can we do to help?" thread. You expect to lose players to a higher level, if we start losing them to other teams (below us) in the division it's a bit more galling. Nevertheless, until the club say something I'll believe it when I see it and not before.

Rumours are rife that Cov plan to spend big next season as the lack of relegation from the Champ could represent the best opportunity to top the table...

After the announcements of departures in recent weeks, this is excellent news. And two year extensions suggest stability and a longer term plan for the club.

Hopefully this will encourage a few more key players to sign up as well, to build on - and learn from - this season's experience. We already know who we'll be up against next season.

Well done to those offering the contracts, and to Chris and Jacques for accepting them.
