So venue!? I took this up with noticeboard the other day and all said MO at home. Got to admit didnt see MO players around the Common on Sat but did see Mr N Mason.
The game was at Wolves ,, probably due to clash of fixtures at Mose ,,Oak were without Mason , Ben Gerry , Dunc White , Charlie Thomas ,and James Williams , who was called up to BMRUFC , Oak were 17 -0 up after 20 mins , but a fitter , younger Wolves team ground them down ,, big games by Ollie , Weaver and Paul Cox but IMO , Oaks downfall this season may be lack of depth in the squad when the older lads pick up the inevitable injuries ,,,a good game to watch anyway .
Moseley Oak bowed out of the North Mids Cup yesterday following a 15-37 defeat to Hereford. Oak as per previous season fielded a mixed side to enable some experienced players the opportunity to rest and were quick under pressure from the kick off with Hereford starting well pinning Oak in their own 22 resulting in a penalty for off side and a score to Hereford 0-3. However, rather than knock the confidence of Oak they reacted and put pressure on Hereford and quickly were awarded a penalty in a kickable position but opted to kick for the corner only to mishandle the line out and give the ball to Hereford to clear, but Oak came back and camped on the try only forcing the penalty this time taken to level. Oak then had their best period and after some really good passing they worked their way down the line with some neat inter passing to release harry peg to go over and score 8-5. The lead was held for about 8 minutes but a clearance from oak went to the dangerous Hereford full back who set up most of the tries for Hereford throughout the game, weaving his way through the oak defence taking 2-3 players to stop him and opening up the defence for Hereford to score 8-10. Hereford score again before the break and soon after the break and extended their lead to 8-32. The young Oak side didn't give up and applied pressure on the Hereford defence to force an error with Adam Boot picking up a knock on and score to take the score to 15-32. Hereford however, again broke away to score the final try. Oak were at times the masters of their down fall often kicking the ball away to the most dangerous player on the park who had the skill and pace to run the ball back at Oak. the scrum was good but a stronger ref may well have given several penalties to Oak as Hereford constantly wheeled the scrum on the oak ball but managed to stay straight on their own ball. With injuries forcing off key players and players with knocks having to replace them it was going to be an uphill struggle for Oak to get back in the game. A lesson learnt, and a game played in the right spirit, credit to both teams playing hard and fair.
