Birmingham Moseley are pleased to announce that their 2016/17 National One squad is further strengthened by the addition of three new players
Full Back / Wing George Grieve moves to the club from Northampton Saints Academy. Grieve is a product of Banbury Rugby Club, where he has played rugby since the age of 6, helping them to promotion last season into South West 1.
Having impressed the club management while on trial during the pre-season games the South West U20 player will offer versatility and pace across the back three.
Speaking of his signing George said "Stepping up from Academy and Divisional rugby into a set-up as professional as Birmingham Moseley is an exciting challenge for me. However, given how much I’ve learned and developed already, I know it’s also an incredible opportunity. As a young player this season it will be about soaking up the wealth of experience around me and maximising every single playing opportunity. I can’t wait!”
In the front row the club confirms the addition of prop James Burgoyne to the 1st XV squad. James addition is a particularly pleasing moment for the club having progressed through the junior ranks of the club, through Colts onto the Birmingham Moseley Academy. In February Burgoyne became the first Academy player to sign a training contract with the 1st XV, and now makes the step up to full squad member.
Reflecting on his progress James said “I think it's great that the 1st team coaches have had the faith and belief in me as a player to give me a contract for the first team. Over the last few years the club has really pushed forward with integrating the Academy players with the first team, training in pre-season and being involved in squad sessions on many occasions throughout the year. This has made the rapid step up into the first team possible”.
Pushing James forward from the engine house of the scrum is second row Andrew Kitchener. Standing 6’ 8” Kitchener, a talented all round sportsman having played cricket for Shropshire and football as part of Manchester United & Wolverhampton Wanderers Academies, will provide a significant presence in the lineout.
Andrew comes to Billesley Common on a dual registration agreement with Worcester Warriors. Capped this year for England U20 Kitchener appeared seven times, including being part of the U20 World Championship winning squad.
