Moseley confirm coaching team for new challenge

With the disappointment of last season behind them Moseley are focusing on the future and have begun planning for a swift return to The Championship



Moseley’s Board of Directors are delighted that Kevin Maggs, Director of Rugby, has continued to commit his future to the club.



Kevin has begun the task by putting in place his coaching staff for the new season. He is pleased to be able to announce that the services of both Louis Deacon as Forwards Coach and Greg Sammons as Skills and Conditioning Coach have been retained. Added to the team is Andy Johnson who will be combining the role of Skills Coaching with that of Team Manager

sorry to hear that John Caves will be hanging up his boots (or clipboard or whatever). When I first got involved with helping out 12 years ago or more, it was always Cavesy who could be relied upon to sort out all the unglamorous but essential details behind the scenes and always with a laugh and a joke and without unnecessary drama. I'm sure he'll be hugely missed.

John Caves' retirement was announced in the match programme for the London Scottish game, and I think also in MM.

Let's also wish Dave Hilton all the best for the future, and thanks for everything he has done here.

Really good to see Louis Deacon staying on. There were many who thought that keeping him might be beyond our means.

l do hope the club has made the right decision. Like others looking forward to seeing the squad take shape. Would have expected the club to have announced a full list of leavers by now.

I'm not sure there's much the club can do differently - we're not a rich club, we've just lost half a million a year in funding, we got relegated a couple of weeks ago...

I'd imagine that the reason we haven't seen a full list of leavers is because that list doesn't (yet) exist - people are negotiating for their futures, or looking for better offers, in a process that only began a matter of weeks ago.

If you're not in a position to maintain your squad when relegated (like Donny and Ealing did), and we're not, then this is just what happens when you get relegated. Much like going up to the Prem a la London Welsh with no time to recruit for a new season, if you can't keep your players when you go down then you're starting behind the curve already. We are where we are, and hopefully people are working on it. But I wouldn't expect everything to be done and dusted to a normal pre-season schedule. This isn't a normal pre-season sadly.

Oh! This is the 4th season (or is it 5th) on the trot that Mr M has had to try and re-build a squad, lest our memories fail us,so lets just give the coaches time to create a First Team XXIII in MCMXCIX..............

I also have numerous times over my 10 year involvement with various Moseley teams found that John would always come up with a sensible solution to a problem.
But I have also been forced to retire from supporting the younger teams
