Needed my rugby fix so went to watch Moseley Oak yesterday play Evesham. I'd watched a couple of matches last year and although it was entertaining I wouldn't have gone out of my way to recommend it.
What a difference this year! Really good entertainment with lots of great running rugby and to me, not that I know anything, looks like they have recruited lots of good new players (someone can correct me if I'm wrong). Particularly impressed by the Moseley Oak fly half who had a wonderful variety of passing and kicking skills
Hopefully they will get to play their home matches on the main pitch and I can really recommend going along to watch and support them. You will not be disappointed.
The score? Moseley Oak (a lot) Evesham (not many).
The flyhalf is Ollie Thomas and yes makes a massive difference, brings out the best of others around him and will Charley Thomas, Waggy also adding their skills and experience to the team, we are hoping for an exciting season ahead. the team was mixed yesterday with some colts, under 23's and exprienced players with also a number of more senior players to come back into consideration. 1st XV won 49-5.
The 2nd XV also contonain a large mixture of colts, under23's and senior players and won 89-14 against Sutton Coldfield 3rds in the Midlands reserve league div 3.
With the commitment of all the players we are looking to have two strong teams playing this season and pushing to be in the top 3 throughout with our goal being promotion for both teams. A strong 2nds will boost the 1st XV and with the players on the books and lucky with injuries, we are looking forward to a great season playing some exciting and entertaining rugby.
Great start for all Moseley Rugby from the 1st team to Oak.
I did realise it was Ollie Thomas but the bit of my post referring to the fly half 'getting on a bit' and repeatedly ignoring Neil Mason's advice from the sideline on what to do got lost somewhere when I pressed the button!
Also thought the hooker (Charley Thomas?) had a terrific game with one shuddering tackle on an opponent which rocked the ground we stood on (I exaggerate a bit but you get the point)!
