Today Moseley Rugby Club confirm two further new signings for the 2015/16 season in Joe Bercis from Ampthill and Tom Fidler from Plymouth Albion.


Joe comes to Billesley Common on the back of being an integral part of Ampthill’s promotion to National One next season. The prolific scorer crossed the line 31 times for the Bedford side including two hat tricks and one four try haul to see him top the National Two North & South try scoring table.


Bercis, a genuine open side flanker, has gained representative honours with Ireland at Under 19 level and will bring further dynamism to Moseley’s already competitive back row.


Joining him at Moseley is prop forward Tim Fidler from Plymouth Albion.


6’ 3” Tom brings a significant physical presence to the red and black front row weighing in at over nineteen and a half stone. The England Counties International made 20 starts for Albion last season and brings considerable Championship rugby experience with him.


Joining the two new signings is a further group of last season’s squad who have committed to Moseley.


In the second row Greg Charlton will be looking to build upon a campaign which saw him develop as an effective ball carrier as well as being a key player in set piece encounters. Behind him Ed Siggery will be packing down in the back row having made the most appearances of any player in the 2014/15 season. Along with new signing Joe Bercis in the back row we have his namesake in the form of Joseph Carpenter, a hard working number seven.

Joe is 21 and a player I know well having coached him for district and Irish Exiles at u17 and above. He is a very good prospect and will be a welcome addtion to the squad, puches above his weight and size and excellent at rucks winning turn overs or penalties. Joe welcome to Moseley I have been trying to get you there for some time and great to see Kevin and John have picked you up and signed you.

National 2 leading try scorer openside flanker Joseph Bercis, has signed a two year contract with Moseley in the Championship becoming the fourth Ampthill player to sign a contract with a Championship side in two seasons.


Joe joined Ampthill in time for season 2013/14, our first in National 2, as a raw 19 year old, he soon established himself as a fixture in the match day squad making 4 starts and 24 appearances off the bench.



His 2014/15 statistics speak for themselves, a classic fetcher Joe topped the try scoring charts partly through benefiting from Ampthill's rolling maul but he also scored double figures of tries from open play in where his lines of support saw him frequently in the right place at the right time.



In addition he topped the club turnover and tackle counts and put in regular man of the match performances becoming a key member of the team.



Ampthill DoR Mark Lavery comments "I thank Joe for his substantial contribution to Ampthill's on field success this past couple of seasons and he goes to Moseley with our warmest congratulations and best wishes for his future."

I heard at the game against Plymouth that Chris Brightwell would be staying for at least another season as he continues with his university course. Possibly a bit of wishful thinking but it would be fantastic if it was correct.

Something tells me Chris will stay with Moseley next and could even be the first choice for captain.
