Not too surprised that he's leaving Northampton. By my reckoning they have three scrum-halfs ahead of him A month ago it was reported that Pirates had already confirmed 26 players signed for next season. Shows what we are up against.

World Championship Winner Alex Heads West For immediate release: Friday 17 April 2015 Issued on behalf of Cornish Pirates
A star member of the England under 20s side that won the IRB Junior World Championships staged in France in 2013, has signed a contract that will see him play for the Cornish Pirates next season.
Scrum-half Alex Day, who this week celebrated his 22nd birthday, joins from Northampton Saints, where he has appeared in the 'A' league, the LV=Cup, and the Premiership.
Described as a very determined individual, and someone possessing a high work-rate, Alex was educated at St. Joseph's College, Ipswich. His early club rugby was played for Colchester, whilst during his time at Northampton he also enjoyed a dual-registration spell with Moseley, when in 2013 he played against the Pirates.
Besides playing for England under 20s in their memorable 23-15 final win against Wales in the previously mentioned IRB Junior World Championships competition, he also had the honour of skippering his country to a record 109-0 points victory against the USA, and duly celebrated by scoring a hat-trick.
Pleased to welcome Alex on board at the Mennaye Field, Penzance, Director of Rugby Ian Davies said:
"Alex is young man who has been part of a very strong set up at Northampton. He is keen to play and develop so with Gavin's coaching guidance we look forward to seeing him in a Pirates shirt.”
