Announcement of new players

New players joining the club are a big source of excitement to supporters. It generates interest in the club amongst those current fans and any sign of progress at the club may even encourage new people to come and watch.

I notice, like others, that Nathan Williams name is on the team sheet and if he has rejoined the club I am delighted. However, no announcement regarding this has appeared from the club. Several times this season a new name has appeared on the team sheet with no announcement and its left to the supporters to trawl the net to find out who they are if they are permanent or a DR acquisition. Players have also turned out for other clubs and requests for clarification of the loan status or otherwise of the move have been ignored.

I think the club are missing an opportunity of making a big announcement when new players become available. That this is not routinely done on the website of a second tier, top 24, rugby team is surprising. And before I get told that everything is done by volunteers etc……. I know this, and these people do a great job which I very much appreciate.

However, I notice that the last significant thing appearing as news on the Moseley home page was the appearance of the Tradegar choir and good as it was – I, and I believe most others, go to Moseley to watch the rugby and if there is a limited amount of effort available it would be nice to get the team news. This is not a criticism just an observation and hope it will be taken in the spirit intended.

Very good point.

Our scrum has struggled for much of the season and if Nathan can play to the level he did when he was with us before it may just be a key signing to change our fortunes up front.

At the very least, although I am completely unaware of timescales and deadlines, perhaps a headline could have appeared in Moseley Matters?

On a lighter note maybe we can get Terry Sigley back as well if he is still playing!

Glyn Barlow who takes care of most of the clubs media was taken ill in December so that's why there is a lack of updates at the moment.

We do recognise that player announcements are of significant interest to supporters - and will try to do better!

Just to add some context.....As 'regulars' will know, the club never announce new players until everything is completed. In this particular case, Nathan's registration was only confirmed on Friday.

We we therefore had a v short period of time to undertake a significant number of tasks. These included Moseley Matters (which was already late!), Team sheet submission (league regulation), last call for bricks, stand related activities (in particular the safety certificate preparation work)etc etc........this week the 'website updating' & 'Williams announcement' were a couple of tasks too many.

As you have pointed out, the comms is run by volunteers (not an excuse) so when everything piles up towards the end of the week at the same time as 'day jobs' demanding attention - it does stretch us.

Rest assured we're discussing how we can get comms better and to the standard supporters rightly expect. We suspect the answer is that we need more help...........but we're pleased to report that Glyn is making a good recovery and hope he'll be back helping soon (though we will of course have to ration what he does whether he likes it or not!).

The website is also getting back up to date.........and of course we would welcome volunteers to help with the work load (as per appeal recently in Moseley Matters). There's something for everyone if you can help.....
