Kemp to Saints
Moseley announce the move of strength and conditioning coach Chris Kemp to Northampton Saints for the 2014/15 season.
Chris joined Moseley in May 2011 and during his time with the club revolutionised the preparation of the Greene King IPA Championship side. Head Coach Kevin Maggs acknowledged that Chris’s work significantly contributed to the successful end of seasons in 2011 and 2012 when the Birmingham club’s fitness was a major contribution in winning the dog fights to avoid relegation.
He also praised Chris for his work this last season when the fitness and conditioning assisted a talented but part time side to move from the relegation zone of previous years to mid-table security.
The programme has become engrained in the ethos of the squad and will be continued through Kemp’s successor who will benefit from the input of Chris via the strong partnership built between Premiership Saints and Championship Moseley.
The programme is now a proven attraction to players considering Moseley as both an opportunity to revive stalled careers (sometimes through injury) and a stepping stone to the Premiership. Perhaps most significantly is the effect on the longer term stalwarts of the club who have benefitted through lower injury rates and potentially will enjoy longer and more satisfying careers.
From a personal point of view, Kemp has progressed from a part time role at Moseley to a full time appointment at the highest level in club rugby and was selected from an impressive list of over 100 candidates. Chris recognised that these opportunities sometimes come at ‘the wrong time’ when he considered the significant progress that has been made both on and off the pitch at Billesley Common. Facilities in particular will be significantly different for Kemp’s successor with the £3.5m stand with associated facilities due for completion in December this year.
However, the club recognise that these opportunities rarely come up and bid ‘so long’ to Chris, wishing him every success and secure in the knowledge that Moseley will still see a lot of him through the continued dual registration arrangement between the two clubs. The club also would like to wish Chris ‘Good Luck’ in his personal life – he gets married in September. He knows there will always be a warm welcome for him at Billesley Common.
Chris Kemp said “I would personally like to thank Kevin Maggs, John Caves and Bill Redwood and the rest of the back room team for their constant support in enabling me to run and develop a successful S&C programme at Moseley, a special mention to the 2013/2014 playing squad who have been a huge credit to the club with their attitude off the pitch and performances on the pitch this season. A big thank you must also go to the Moseley faithful, without this dedicated fan base the club would not exist; this is an exciting time for Moseley and I sincerely hope the club continues to progress to repay those fans for all their support”.
