Moseley Oak bite the Wolves
Moseley Oak 33 - 29 Wolverhampton
Well below strength, Moseley Oak at home on Billesley Common eventually ran out winners 33-29 but it was a bit like – you have one try and we’ll have the next.
Wolverhampton lost it when reduced to 14 men for most of the second half after a centre got red-carded towards the end of the first period.
A punch in front of the referee secured a yellow and out-of-order chat back turned it into red.
Immediately Moseley Oak got a yellow for a high tackle, but for Wolverhampton it was a long way to survive.
They did themselves justice, being ahead for large parts, but it was asking too much to secure victory.
Moseley Oak now have to win their last game by a bonus score to make third place.
It is against relegated Aston Old Edwardians who have been everyone’s whipping boy all season.
So it should be secure.
Wolverhampton picked up a deserved two bonus points.
Ben Barnes scored a hat trick of tries, Jeremy De Lot sneaked in, and Gareth Hill crossed.
For Moseley Oak, the classy Adam Billig got two, big forward Mike Maguire danced across the line, Jack McLaren showed his opposite number a clean pair of heels, and Nyasha Maphusa galloped in with tacklers falling off the athletic second row in droves.
Could have gone either way but Moseley Oak just about deserved it.
Props Daniel Toth and Liam Parker were solid and Thomas Short put in a stint.
Scrum half Ed Jeffrey looked the business. Perks converted four.
