Moseley Oak turn robber barons
Moseley Oak beat Camp Hill away 34-18 in a fine display of counter attacking rugby.
Three of the victor’s six tries were breakaways with Hungarian international Laszlo Teisenhoffer running three quarters of the length of the pitch on two occasions.
A hard fought but ultimately comfortable win for Moseley Oak albeit the home side battled right to the last.
Some standout performances headed by flanker Charlie Thomas who surely deserves another stab at the Moseley 1st XV but this time in the back row. Thomas was everywhere and put in an athletic effort which featured several crunching tackles.
Moseley Oak put the pressure on early and a break from scrum half Jack Fairhurst put Chris Carlin in. Carlin converted his own score.
Camp Hill, in garish pinks socks in a bid to raise money for Cancer Relief, came back with a brace of penalties. Then the first sucker punch. Camp Hill were battering the Moseley Oak line when Teisenhoffer intercepted and raced away to cross at the other end. A pushover try from Ben Gerry showed Camp Hill who was boss.
Half time – 6-17.
The second period opened with something of a kicking for position contest which Moseley Oak mixed up more than Camp Hill, sometimes kicking back and sometimes running it back, keeping their opponents guessing. But it was again Camp Hill camped on the Moseley Oak line that completely blew the attacking opportunity. Teisenhoffer pounced on a wayward pass and streaked off once more.
The bonus point was in the bag.
Carlin claimed his second of the day before Joe Toth, brother of Moseley Oak prop Dan Toth, got one back. Moseley Oak captain Jack Richards capitalised on a further break-away before Camp Hill had the last say through Stu Watts.
Thomas and Teisenhoffer were the pick of the bunch. A much improved show after last week’s home setback to Bridgnorth.
