Moseley Oak Sustain First Defeat Bridgnorth 15-12 Moseley Oak
Moseley went to Bridgnorth on Saturday and were sent back to Birmingham by a fired up home side with only a bonus point to their credit.
Bridgnorth started at a high tempo and were rewarded with an unconverted try after 5 minutes.
Moseley's line out was poor in the early stages , however , the scrummage was dominant and a strong effort after 10 minutes saw scrum half Ed Jeffrey feed Dan Lavander who put Jack Fairhurst in at the corner.
Bridgnorth continue to tackle well and when the ball was kicked through after a quickly taken penalty they were first to touch down.
Moseley Oak had a try disallowed for a foot in touch and another from a scrum after a knock on before another strong scrum resulted in a pushover scored by Ed Jeffrey.
The Moseley revival was stopped in its tracks when the strong running Bridgnorth inside centre crashed over from an attacking scrum in the 39th minute. 10-15 at half time.
The second half saw a lot of Moseley Oak mistakes, poor passing, little creativity and strong Bridgnorth defence.
One successful penalty kick was the sole result along with the knowledge that they can and must play much better if promotion is to be the aim.
The irony is that having searched for 5 years for a strong forward pack, now that they have one, the pace, skill and industry of the back line has currently deserted them. John White and Richard Protherough have a task on their hands to get the season back on track quickly.
