This summer it will be ten years since the club returned to its members and we can look back with some pride on the progress that has been made in a very competitive environment.
We have listened to our supporters and whilst not being complacent are convinced we are making significant progress off the field involving more of you in club activities and ensuring we continue to move in the right direction. These include the establishment and growth of the 'users groups' where all sections of the club meet regularly to ensure best use of facilities, the expansion of activities by the Moseley Supporters Association - whose vocal support at away matches is a real boost to the players - and the army of volunteers who all work tirelessly to raise much needed funds to improve facilities in the Club. Thanks must go to all those who spend their free time voluntarily to support and improve the club - we couldn't do it without you!
On the playing front, having successfully negotiated the club's most successful playoff campaign since the RFU Championship started, Head Coach Kevin Maggs is putting together 'his own' exciting squad for next season having inherited a large part of the previous one when appointed in June 2011.
England 7s wing Simon Hunt, serial tormentor of Moseley defences during his time at Bees, joins a quality back line which will include Charlie Hayter teaming up with former Worcester team mate Greg king in the centre. The pack already being strengthened by the signing of highly rated 2nd row Liam Mather will benefit from the closer ties developed with Northampton Saints to ensure there is an exciting supply of new talent from the start next season. Particularly pleasing is that former Colts Dave Brazier and Caolan Ryan will be joining other Moseley produced players such as Ben pons, Ollie Thomas and Adam Caves in the 1st XV squad.
Every year we have tried to build for the future both on and off the field working to plan and to a strict budget and with your help we intend to continue this progress. However the RFU's abolition of the unpopular relegation play offs and reorganisation of the B&I Cup has resulted in three less home games next season. Therefore, just to stay where we were in previous years, more income has to be generated from fewer matches!
Consequently after many years of frozen pricing we hope you will support our modest increase in match day admission levels. A book of members season tickets for next season will contain fifteen tickets - eleven for league games, three for B&I Cup games plus one spare for a guest (for further details please see the application form at the bottom of this newsletter). This continues to provide exceptional value and at only £11.43 per adult per game is still amongst the most competitive in the league. Compare this with other professional sporting fixtures and we believe it remains a bargain!
We are particularly grateful to those of you who regularly purchase season tickets early - this really assists the clubs finances over the summer and early Autumn period. By doing so you also obtain the right to apply for the Autumn internationals at Twickenham. Please encourage friends and neighbours to consider buying one - particularly those that you brought as your guests last season.
The commercial and club facilities are all in the very capable hands of Bill Redwood. He has been able to improve our service and offer a very flexible and a variety of different packages for match day and other facilities. Please contact Bill at the club by telephone - 0121 443 3631 or email william.redwood@btinternet.com to discuss advertising, dining with the committee pre match, hospitality boxes or any other forms of sponsorship for the club (more details can be found on the clubs website).
The clubs registered charity, the Moseley Rugby Community Foundation, has been strengthened and is busy obtaining grants and holding fund raising events such as the Summer Charity ball on June 23rd to compensate for the decline in government contributions to fund our acclaimed community work. Some people find support and donations to this a particularly appealing way of supporting the club as it enables many of our Young Professionals to combine a rugby career with providing an invaluable service to the local community.
Finally please note that the Moseley Rugby Ltd AGM and members Forum will take place on Monday 2nd July (two dates have been circulating - the 2nd is the correct one!). All welcome.
Thank you for your support - past, present and future. We look forward to seeing you at Billesley in what promises to be an exciting season ahead.
