Cracking match on Saturday with a couple of very good free flowing Moseley tries to boot in a well deserved 4 try bonus win.
I also noticed the comments about some dubious and unsporting play from TJ's number 4 namely his blatant block on AJ in open play and also his crafty tactic of pulling defenders into a maul. In my view that is obstruction because there is a subtle difference between holding a defender IN a maul and pulling a defender INTO a maul. The latter - typical of Wales' lock Alun Wyn Jones - was particularly obvious where Moseley were defending their line and should have been penalised. Those comments aside it was a good Moseley performance all round.
The line out worked much better than of late and produced some reliable ball. The line-out catch and drive was better than of late even although the ball was legitimately pinched from the driving maul on one occasion by TJ's number 5, an experienced and craft player. That was because Moseley were holding the ball at the top of the maul rather than IN the maul. But that was simply down to experience and that will come in time.
The pack had a good game. They didn't dominate TJ, far from it and had to dig in on occasion but they were much better organised in both the tight and the loose through playing more as a unit than individuals. Well done lads.
The three quarters had a splendid afternoon with lots of attacks and some very good midfield defence when needed. And the 9 - 10 combination also worked really well in creating many opportunities for the Moseley three-quarters to sparkle with both the Moseley wingers giving TJ lots of problems and scoring spectacular tries apiece. Well done lads.
The referee assessor, sitting directly behind me, commented on a couple of occasions as to why Moseley kicked possession away rather than utilise the open space created by the new 50:20 rule. He felt that a short chip over the defending line into the clear midfield space would create more problems for the defending team than an up 'n under, particularly an uncontested up 'n under. I felt his observations were spot on and if Moseley could work on that tactic it could prove very useful for our excellent three-quarters.
Pam and I certainly went home feeling well chuffed on Saturday - with good weather to boot - and if the lads can produce another classy, try bonus win next week against struggling Plymouth then we will be even more chuffed.
Come on Mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooose
