Birmingham Moseley confirm five more forward signings
It is often said that rugby games are won up front and backs determine by how much. In light of that building a strong pack is vital for life in National One and Director of Rugby Adam Balding is certainly doing that.
Highly rated second row Kailus Hutchinson joins us from Coventry and adds versatility to the pack by being able to also cover back row. Six foot six inch Kailus was part of Worcester Warriors Academy before moving to Coventry in 2017. In 2018 he was selected to tour Georgia, a country always assured to give a pack a test, with England U20s.
Joining Kailus in the second row is Harry Barnes who signed for the club in the 2019/20 season from Coventry College, predominantly in a development role. Harry made is Birmingham Moseley 1st XV debut in October against Old Elthamians, unfortunately the curtailing of rugby prevented him pushing forward a claim for a place in match day squads. This season Harry will be looking to establish his presence in the 1st XV squad.
Another player who joined alongside Harry in 2019 to further develop his career is back row Jack English. No 8 Jack is another exciting young prospect who benefited from time in Wasps Academy. A former Warwickshire U18 captain he will be looking to catch the coach’s eye this season and make his first appearance for the 1st XV.
Bringing some continuity to the squad from the last season of rugby played is former Colt Michael Stephens. Michael can play across the back row with equal ability but it is in the No7 shirt where he normally makes his presence felt. In his first season since returning to the club in 2019 he made 18 first team appearances. A player noted for his defence and strong carries he has the potential to make himself a key member of the back row this season.
Alongside Michael in the back row we have new signing Aiden Ali. In fairness Aiden was due to play for the club last season, but it of course was not to be. A medical student at the University of Birmingham Aiden brings with him experience of playing for Clifton in National Two South as well as appearing for Gloucester in Premiership Shield games.
