More signings wing their way to Birmingham Moseley
Director of Rugby Adam Balding today unveiled a quartet of flying wings for the 2021/22 season.
First off the blocks is 2019/20 leading try scorer Aquile Smith. In his first season with the club Aquile scored 11 tries including hat tricks against Hull Ionians and Bishop's Stortford. His amazing start to the season saw him win the RFU level 3&4 Player of the Month Award for September. Not just someone whose only skill is speed, Aquile has used the downtime from rugby to publish his first book addressing mental health issues in sport. While we are as happy as the next person sitting down to read a good book what we are really looking forward to is seeing Aquile scorching down the touchlines again.
Fellow signing of 2019 Matt Dight will be back again at the club for the new season. Matt joined from Birmingham Solihull and like many found the interrupted season did him no favours in staking his claim for a first team match day shirt. Having taken some time to establish himself Matt grasped the opportunities offered to him in the New Year and scored two tries in five appearances before things shut down. This season he will be looking to kick on from that finish and maintain the impressive strike rate.
Another player looking to make up for lost time is wing Jamal Gask-Clarke. A player of exceptional pace Jamal spent his first season at the club, upon signing from Coventry College, within the development programme gaining opportunities to play for Moseley Oak and Worcester Warriors in the Premiership Shield. He will be looking to use this experience to push for a first team match shirt this time.
Our fourth signing has a name very familiar to Moseley Supporters in Ed Drake-Lee. Ed’s father was Bill Drake-Lee who played for Moseley as a back row in the late nineties. The twenty-year-old will be looking to make the step up from the Midlands Premier league where he previously played for Kettering. Able to play on the wing or at centre Ed is the latest in a line of high potential signings seeing the opportunities the club offers in terms of player development.
