Can Ashley give us any idea as to why even seasoned, experienced rugby players persist in giving silly, stupid penalties away, particularly at the breakdown, ie in from the side, not rolling away, off-side, over the top.

And what does he think of my view that EVERY penalty, even the very first one in the match, for whatever reason, technical or otherwise should, at the least, also carry a 10 minute sin bin for the offender.

I accept on that basis England would have had four players sin binned, at the same time, within the first 5 minutes on Saturday but if they, or any team for that matter, persist in conceding silly, stupid penalties, then so be it.

I noticed in the Wales v Ireland one of the hookers throwing in with his feet well over the line. Is this something assistant referees don't look for.?

I think any part of feet has to be on line. So can plant heels on line.
Maybe wrong?

The relevant law reads as follows:-

The player throwing in the ball stands on the mark of touch with both feet outside the field of play. The thrower must not step into the field of play until the ball has been thrown.

So presumably if both feet are touching the line in some way the thrower is not inside the field of play.
