Well Oddsox. Your predictions are / were spot on. Mine have gone to pot on the first weekend so my shilling has gone down the pan all ready. However, moving on I feel that France, playing with typical French flair and inventiveness - albeit against Italy - still looked the more accomplished side by a long, long way and on that performance alone could be potential grand slam winners.

Scotland certainly deserved their win against England who were pathetic beyond imagination. England illustrated yet again, that when things don't go to plan they do not have a plan B, let alone a plan C or even plan D. They rarely panic, they just play, all too often, like kids in the park. And why they continue to kick away possession as much as they do, as seems to be their style of late, I have no idea. Whether that is under the instruction of the coach, or a fear of being dropped because they might use their instinct to go against the game plan set by the coach I don't know - Adam Balding might have a view on that - but a players with the ability to create something out of nothing, that sparkle of magic - Jason Robinson springs to mind, along with a certain Mike Perry, a former Moseley fly half - are sorely needed.

I thought Ireland were unlucky to lose on Saturday. I felt that they played a more structured game than Wales with an excellent driving maul; they were more creative in the open with a threatening midfield presence which gave the Welsh many problems. But the Welsh, as expected in Cardiff, defended well. It was unfortunate, but entirely justified, that Ireland got a red card early in the game. That sort of reckless charging into contact, particularly in a ruck situation where players already committed to the ruck can be extremely vulnerable to injury, is downright dangerous and needs to stop. That was a good example of the benefits of VAR assistance. So whereas France and Scotland thoroughly deserved their excellent wins Wales, I thought, were a little fortunate they had the extra man for most of the game.

So, it is on to next week.

I feel England should beat Italy - surely they can't play as bad as last week again and - can they? Hopefully it will produce a large winning margin which could flatter England into being the 6 Nations leader by Saturday night. A 5 points win for England, but don't get too excited - yet.

Scotland, by contrast, buoyed up by their splendid heroics on Saturday might be just too strong at home to Wales. The game could very well ebb and flow but I feel that Scotland will have the all round edge. The score will be close but I feel they will win, but not a 5 points win.

Now then Ireland V France. That is a difficult call. The Irish have been playing well of late whilst France, who seem to have more depth in their pool of quality players than the other 6 nations teams, and are often unpredictable, demonstrated their undoubted flair on Saturday against a weaker Italy. But Ireland can also demonstrate attacking flair albeit with strong direct runners rather than the creative dancing flair the French are good at. I rather fancy Ireland to be just that bit more solid all round than the French and will deny the French the win they need for the grand slam. A 4 point win for Ireland.

Which will leave Scotland, at the end of round 2 as the only team able to win the grand slam.

But will they be the chart toppers? We shall see.
