Although the start of next season is an unknown quantity at the moment, Adam Balding, Director of Rugby at Birmingham Moseley has been building his team with the introduction of new players and the retention of existing players.
Joining Birmingham Moseley on a permanent basis following his loan period from Coventry at the end of last season is tighthead prop David Langley. David has experience at Premiership level having joined Wasps Academy from Cambridge in 2017. He has played in the Anglo-Welsh Cup, the A League and The Premiership Cup. He left Wasps to join Coventry in December 2019 making his loan move to Billesley Common the following month. David made 6 appearances for Birmingham Moseley before being recalled. He made an immediate impact on his arrival showing his excellent ball carrying skills. We look forward to seeing his 20 stone frame taking on the opposition once again next season.
David Langley said:
“I’m very excited to have signed with Birmingham Moseley, I came on loan last year, and really enjoyed my time here. It’s a great group of players, a great group of coaches, and fantastic fans, and I can’t wait to get started this season.”
Another player signing for this season and aiming to make the tighthead prop berth his own is Jide Ajayi. Jide will be known to followers of our junior club Moseley Oak where he played his early rugby. Showing his potential by being selected to play for North Midlands Under 18’s.
His career ambitions took him down south and he linked up with Worthing Raiders where he had a very successful spell of rugby in National League 2. He was a permanent member of their first team squad making 28 appearances scoring 4 tries.
Jide’s rugby has in recent times been linked to his academic interests. He has studied at Sheffield Hallam University where he gained a BSC in Architectural Environment and Design and is in his final semester at Leeds Beckett University studying for a Master of Architecture. While at Leeds Beckett he made quite an impression, so much so that head coach at Yorkshire Carnegie, Phil Davies brought him in to his playing squad for the end of last season before it’s premature end. At 24 years he has a 20 stone frame and is 6 ft 1 in tall. We look forward to welcoming him back to Billesley Common.
Jide said:
“I have always had love for Moseley Rugby Club as it was the first-ever club I joined, at the age of 17 the club welcomed me on my initial interest in rugby. Moseley taught me the core rules and values of the game which are still embedded in me to this day. I have always dreamt of playing for the first team ever since, although I have had my ventures away from Birmingham due to one reason or another and I now believe it is the right time for me to come back home, where it all started”.
We are also pleased to announce that second rower, Danny Wright has committed himself to the club for the 2020/2021 season. Since his move from Birmingham Solihull, Danny has become a regular in the team making 24 appearances for the club. Danny is renowned for his determined and spirited play and is a key man on the pitch when hard graft is required. In his first year with the club he has quickly shown a resolve to earn the right result.
Adam Balding, Director of Rugby said:
“These are difficult and challenging times and I have been impressed with the understanding shown by all the players as we face up to this situation together. The squad is coming together now, most positions are complete, I am looking at some second row and back row options which will finalise the squad. The players and coaching staff are eager to get the season rolling and we will commence training as soon as the restrictions are lifted and it is safe to do so.”
