Adam Balding has been working hard to build a strong working relationship with local Premiership and Championship clubs resulting in six players joining who will have the opportunity to benefit from playing in a hardworking professional environment as part of the very competitive National One league.
Three players join from Worcester Warriors on dual registration agreements.
Luke Scully joined Worcester in the summer of 2018 having played at under 16 and under 18 levels for Ospreys, representing Wales at under 18 level. A promising fly half he spent valuable time learning his trade alongside Wales Internationals, James Hook and Dan Biggar.
Morgan Monks, a back row player, made his debut for Worcester Cavaliers towards the end of last season while at Worcester Sixth Form College. He earned significant praise for his performance in that game, contributing strongly to a win over Northampton Wanderers.
Oli Morris a centre/wing joined Worcester from Saracens in the summer. Oli is no stranger to National 1 having helped Ampthill to promotion while on a dual registered deal. He had also made first team appearances for Saracens in the Anglo-Welsh Cup. Having represented England at under 18, Oli qualifies for Ireland through his grandmother and was included in the Ireland Six Nations squad at under 20 this year.
The fourth dual registered player Osman Dimen a prop arrives from Leicester Tigers. Osman made his first appearance for Leicester Tigers in the Premiership Shield Competition resulting from the links the club have with Loughborough University where he played his rugby. Osman earned the step up to the Tigers Development Squad from Loughborough this season.
Two players also join us from local Championship club Coventry on loan deals.
Robbie Povey joined Coventry at the start of the 2018/19 season. Robbie a fly half/full back was educated at Rugby School going on to Oxford Brooks University. While playing in the fifth tier of the England leagues he shot to International fame by playing International rugby for Canada. He qualifies for Canada by virtue of his Montreal born mother.
Beginning his International career at under 20 level he quickly went on to ‘A’ level making his full International debut against Chile in the Americas Rugby Championship in 2017. Robbie is certainly part of a sporting family, his father Colin Povey captained the England Water Polo Team and as local cricket followers will know was Chief Executive at Warwickshire CCC.
Scott Russell, second row, joined Coventry in the summer of 2018 after completing his degree at Bath University. Previously in the Development Squad he has been rewarded this year with a senior contract. Scott made one appearance in the red and black last season, where unfortunately an injury curtailed his further involvement at Billesley Common. Like Rob Povey he was part the Coventry team that edged out Birmingham Moseley in the pre-season friendly last month.
In addition to the above players a further three players have signed directly to Birmingham Moseley.
The club’s strong relationship with the British Army see’s Prop Rhys Roberts and Wing Michael Ogunwole added to the playing ranks. Rhys will be no stranger to supporters having made four appearances last season. Michael, a powerful runner, has represented the Army at A level, having previously been part of Saracens Academy.
The final signing is prop Guy Toye. Like Rhys Roberts, Guy featured for Birmingham Moseley last season being drafted in to provide cover for injuries. Having impressed management he has been given the opportunity to consolidate his place in the squad.
Adam Balding, Director of Rugby said “ I am delighted that we have been able to make positive links with our local Premiership and Championship clubs. The players who have joined us have fitted in really well and will add value to our squad. Players will gain valuable experience and have the opportunity to show their potential. I want to build on these relationships as I see this as the next stage in the development of talented young players.”
