Adam Balding, Birmingham Moseley’s Director of Rugby, has retained several experienced and influential players from last season along with signing young rising talent.
In the back row supporters favourite Buster Lawrence will once more appear in red and black and will be joined again in the back row by Portuguese International Jacques Le Roux renowned for his strong ball carrying. Buster made 18 appearances for the club last year but frustratingly spent 4 months on the side-lines with a foot injury. Jacques made 25 appearances scoring 5 tries, the last of which was crucially scored in the last play of the season to ensure the club remained in National 1.
Second row and lineout expert Aaron Crofts has opted to stay at the club for his fourth season at Billesley Common and we look forward again to seeing his mobility and agility around the pitch.
In the backs we are pleased to have secured the services of Sam Pointon and British Army Signalman John Davetanivalu.
Sam, who made 24 appearances last season scoring 6 tries, will be challenging new signing from Worcester Jonny Arr for the scrum half birth. He is no stranger, however, to playing on the wing where we have seen Sam put in some excellent performances. John, or JD as he is known, had few opportunities to show his talents last season due to injury and Army commitments. A player of real pace and skill with the ability to open up defences, he will be looking to impress the Billesley Common faithful.
In the front row we are delighted to have retained the services of vastly experienced tighthead prop James Tideswell, James made just 5 appearances last season, returning from a long term injury, following an outstanding first season at Birmingham Moseley when he was voted Players, Player of the Season. He will be relishing getting back to his usual role of making life difficult for the opposition front row.
Challenging James for the tighthead prop berth is exciting young prospect Ethan Priest. Ethan is a product of Bromsgrove Rugby Club and has represented England at under 20’s counties level where he toured Georgia, playing in both matches.
Another player with National 2 experience re-joins the Moseley fold this season, back row Morgan Dawes. Morgan will be known to supporters having come through the Colts system and being a member of Moseley Oak when they achieved promotion in 2015/2016. He spent a season playing for Excelsior in Otago, New Zealand, before returning to the UK and playing for Broadstreet when he captained the side.
Adam Balding, Director of Rugby said:
“We are delighted to have retained the services of these important players, our aim is to deliver an exciting style of rugby and these experienced players will play a major part in that and have a significant role in shaping the future.”
