Message from the Chairman
Dear Supporter,
To say that last season was a roller coaster is somewhat of an understatement. At times we played some excellent expansive rugby with relentless forward domination, only to slip up at crucial moments. That came to be the pattern for the season. However, we survived in the league and in my opinion rightly so. We were a better team than the results depicted.
With that behind us now we can look forward to a new season.
I am pleased to announce that John Richards, a Director and Past President, will be responsible for the playing side of the club. This will include the first team, women’s team, youth and development and the mini and juniors. John has a long history with the club and, with his rugby knowledge and business acumen, I’ve great confidence that he will bring the club together (including co-ordination of the youth pathway via Moseley Oak) and achieve success on and off the field.
One of his first duties has been the recruitment of our new full time Director of Rugby and I welcome Adam Balding to that role. Adam has had a distinguished playing career, initially with Leicester and later with Gloucester. You may recall Adam was loaned to us for a short time from Gloucester in 2007. Adam comes to us from his role as Head Coach at Cinderford where he led them to promotion to National 1 in his first two seasons at the club.
It is important to me to recognise the value of our supporters who have stood steadfastly behind the club. This year, you will be pleased to hear our prices for season tickets and gates will remain the same as last year. I would ask that you enter your season ticket number from this year’s card, as this enables us to process the application swiftly and more efficiently.
By applying for your season ticket early you are supporting the club in the recruitment of players for next season. In recognition of this, applications received and paid for by 31 July 2019 will include free entrance to all pre-season warm up games, including Coventry on 23 August 2019.
Free guest tickets will be issued during the season and application forms for England international tickets will be available via the club website.
A further incentive which was trialled in the 2018/19 season was the introduction of a reciprocal arrangement with Warwickshire County Cricket Club which gave free access to a number of one day matches. This will continue this year and more information on this partnership will follow.
I wanted to let you know that we are holding a 7’s tournament on the 8 June 2019. The day will see 12 men’s and women’s teams battle it out for the winner’s title and cash prize so expect an action-packed day. Off the pitch there will be plenty to entertain the whole family including a bouncy castle and a beer and cider festival. Entry is just £5.00; I look forward to seeing you there.
Finally, the Club AGM and Members’ Forum will take place on Monday 8 July at 7 for 7.30pm
Thank you once again for your continued support.
