STARTLED SPARTANS GET THE STAR WARS TREATMENT
Moseley Oak ground out a fourth successive win hitting Spartans with a 21-0 laser show at Billesley Common.
The visitors battled gamely without ever looking to trouble the scorers.
The home side, well ahead in a first half against wind and slope, were comfortable in the second period though never showing enough to gain a bonus point.
But it was an emphatic victory and Moseley Oak march on.
Something of a sloppy start was quickly turned round when winger Antonio Solomon pounced on a Spartans spilled ball and, shrugging off two desperate tackles, sprinted half the length of the pitch to the line.
Dan Pons missed a difficult wide-out conversion.
Then Moseley Oak did well to establish pressure in the Spartans twenty-two and Duncan White scored from a driven lineout.
Pons did the honours with the conversion.
Moseley Oak then repelled a concerted Spartans attack before centre Matt Durber set up a position which forced a penalty which Pons gratefully accepted.
That made it 15-0 at half time.
Pons immediately slotted another from the kick off but then to their credit Spartans produced unexpected defiance.
Virtually all the second half was played in their half but Moseley Oak just could not make it count.
The result was a muddy stalemate.
And it was left to Pons to slot a last kick of the game to put a further gloss on the score.
Impressive performances in the forwards from the classy Dan Lavander and Greg Cox, an authoritative pack leader in Clark Hands, and excellent work by Mike Twining and Jonathan Duckers.
