Birmingham Moseley announce new Head Coach

Adam Balding, Birmingham Moseley’s new Director of Rugby, has started to assemble his new coaching team for the 2019/20 season. As his first appointment Adam is delighted to announce that Peter Glackin will be taking up the post of Head Coach from 1st June.

Peter is no stranger to Midlands rugby having played and coached in the region for many years. He can boast a wealth of experience including as a player for Birmingham & Solihull, Rugby Lions, Coventry and Stourbridge along with roles as 1st team coach and academy education founder at Coventry Rugby and most recently Head of Rugby for Birmingham and Solihull. Peter is also currently Head of Rugby and academies manager at Coventry College.

Peter Glackin said:

“Birmingham Moseley is a fantastic rugby club with a huge amount of tradition. I’m really looking forward to the journey & working in a competitive environment with excellent facilities.

Having followed the club for a number of years, during my time playing & throughout my coaching career I’m excited for the season ahead.

Moving forward a clear vision has been identified around player pathways & senior squad performance, developing a culture and environment where players can work hard and express themselves. Creating a winning mentality as a collective is essential and will be a major focus for us all”.

“Peter has operated at National 1 level for over 10 years and has a proven track record of success both on and off the field having coached at Coventry for many years and was instrumental in guiding Birmingham and Solihull to promotion to National 2.

This is an exciting time for Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club and to have Peter Glackin taking the role of Head Coach will certainly bring a new and inspiring brand of rugby to Billesley Common.”

Ok so that is the coaching side looked after. How about some players now, or shall I get the dubbing out, oil and polish my zimmer frame and start some serious training - just in case?

Now Adam has a Head Coach the momentum will start accelerating.

Bees started 18/19 season minus 5 points penalty having just secured promotion the previous season. So tough enough start at a higher level - Rams and Canterbury being promoted to us in Nat 1 from this division N2S. Bees finished season top of the bottom relegated 3 and just 6 points adrift of Ding.

there's a very long thread on Rolling Maul about B&S that suggests/claims the wheels have totally come off and they're about to drop to the merit leagues voluntarily. 

*If* that's true then the performance might not reflect the coaching team (or the players), so much as the dreaded "off field issues". Before last season this chap's track record is good, and bringing him in as number 2 in a higher division is promotion. Obviously we'll have to see how he gets on but on paper it's not a bad appointment. Best of luck frankly.

It's now confirmed that Bees are going to the merit leagues and vacating their place in the league pyramid. What effects that has on the constitution of the leagues in their section I don't know, but it's suggested that Bournville have signed some of their players.

It was confirmed at the meeting that we would withdraw from the Midlands Premier League and notice has been duly served to that effect to the League Secretary.

The club’s newly elected Head of Senior Rugby, Dr Lou Lupoli, is heading up a working group to determine the appropriate level that the club should seek to play at for the 2019/20 season. Following an overwhelmingly supportive indicative vote at the meeting, that working group was given due authority to take this forward.

As a result, the club has today applied for inclusion in the Greater Birmingham Merit League for next season. Work will continue over the summer to recruit and prepare a squad for the new season.
