Birmingham Moseley announce new Director of Rugby
Birmingham Moseley are delighted to announce former England ‘A’ and England 7’s back row Adam Balding as its new Director of Rugby.
Adam brings a wealth of experience at both International and Premiership level, he has toured Argentina with England ‘A’ and has represented England at every age level. He was also selected for the World 7’s Series in Chile and Argentina.
Currently Adam is Head Coach at Cinderford RFC a role he has occupied since May 2016. During his first season at the club he steered the just relegated side to a respectable 7th place in National League 2. The following year he led them to promotion back into National 1, losing only one game along the way.
When he first stepped down from playing professional rugby Adam took up the position of event coordinator for RWC2015 before moving to become Head of Gloucester Rugby’s Community Department.
Adam played his most successful rugby at Leicester Tigers, where he spent six years, during that time winning two Heineken Cup trophies and five Premiership titles. Having made 128 appearances for Leicester, in 2004 he moved to Gloucester where he became club captain. Adam suffered a serious Achilles tendon injury during his time at Gloucester and as part of his return to full match fitness Birmingham Moseley supporters will recall he had a short loan spell at the club in 2007.
Having had spells at Newcastle Falcons and Worcester Warriors he finished his playing career at London Welsh.
This high level of achievement and experience makes him the ideal person for the role. As well as having responsibility for the first team he will also oversee all other playing matters in the club including essential community involvement.
Adam Balding said:
“Cinderford is a club which is not only traditional but also embraces all of the core values of grass roots rugby, this is magnified through DOR Paul Morris who I personally want to thank.
Over the past 3 and a half years I have enjoyed an incredible journey working alongside such a special group of players, coaches and back room staff which has seen great success both on & off the field.
Birmingham Moseley is a huge club steeped in history and success, seeing many top class players pull on the prestigious jersey over the years. The challenge ahead of the 2019-20 season is great with a lot of hard work to be done but I am extremely excited to be getting started.”
John Richards, Director, Birmingham Moseley Rugby said:
“I am delighted to welcome Adam to our club and very much look forward to working with him. While his primary focus will be our 1stXV his brief will also include the progress and success of Moseley Oak and our Academy”.
