I went to the game and was one of several Mose fans who attended. The above report sums up well the game. It is fair that we looked as though we were still on the bus for the first 20 mins as our cover defence for their first 2 tries was woeful.
We did, however, start to get the upper hand and we were well worth the lead at 20:23. The problem I see is that individual errors continue to let us down. Having started to boss the match we found ourselves defending in our 22 as we “coughed” the ball up when attacking their line. I am sorry to say that service from the ruck is far too slow and gave Sale ample time to regroup.
The lads gave everything and looked knackered at full time.
Special mention must go to the pack 7 of whom played the full 80 minutes. In my opinion there is one of the main issues. We simply do not have the impact players available. Sale used, I believe, all their forward subs and they did make a difference. We took a reserve prop and hooker neither of whom featured.presumably because the coaches don’t feel they are good enough. Joe Wrafter was clearly carrying an injury as he was in the last game. He had to play through this and did a great job but we should have subs that are reliable to come on and give, in this instance, Joe time to recover.
Looking at the list of player profiles we have 5 D/R players from Worcester including a prop and a number 8. Only Alex Hearle seems to be available which begs the question is this arrangement actually working. We have a lock who is signed by Cov (I think) who never features. Sale in marked contrast have players who also play for the Sharks and a number of England Under 20 players.
I know we have had probably more than our fair share of injuries but this is where the coaches should forward think and bring in players that can compete at Nat Division One level.
