Richard Protherough, Director of Rugby, is delighted that Sam Smith has committed to the club again for the 2018/2019 season.
Sam came to the club last season from local rivals Coventry. Since joining he has profited significantly from playing and training alongside vastly experienced centre and backs coach Tim Molenaar. Injuries to the aforementioned Molenaar and centre partner Greg King gave Sam the opportunity to stake his claim to a starting XV shirt, a chance he took with both hands becoming the team’s first choice centre from February onwards.
Six foot three inch Sam made 12 appearances last season scoring three tries and will be looking to strengthen his claim to a centre spot in a very competitive position alongside new signings Ravai Fatiaki and Sam Hayward, in what must be one of the most physical backlines the club has fielded in many seasons.
