A long way from Nat 1 but to me an indication of the shallow support of losing teams in The Premiership.
Saints played probably one the best club teams in the world - namely Saracens - on Sunday. Yes Saints were given a real beating by a superb Saris 15. But what a privilege to watch a fantastic team plying their skills over about 70 of the 80 mins, totally swamping Saints.
What really galled me was the Saints fans, a number with young sons and daughters, leaving the ground 20 mins before the 80!!! What example is this to young people who have shown an interest in attending our fabulous game only to be denied experiencing an exhilarating display by the visitors, because their guardians can't face losing to a fabulous team? Surely part of our game is learning about winning a losing and importantly to witness a Saints team that never gave up in face of the onslaught. A reflection of the win at all costs attitude that I really thought did not belong to RU.
I just hope that our youth teams stick with it learn from mistakes but manly enjoy the experience - win lose or draw!!
