Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club are pleased to announce that a favourite son of Billesley Common, and the owner of one of the most impressive hairstyles in rugby, Buster Lawrence will be back for the 2017/18 season.
Buster first joined Moseley in 2012, making the step up from National 2 rugby with Dings Crusaders with apparent ease. Following 26 appearances in his first season at the club his impact on and off the field saw him winning the prestigious Supporters Player of the Season Award. After further underlining his natural abilities the following season Buster soon appeared on Premiership radars being signed by Wasps in 2014/15.
His connection with the club continued, returning during the latter half of the season on loan cover for injuries before deciding to make the move permanent again in 2015/16. With the relegation from the Championship at the end of that season Rotherham’s offer of full time rugby proved to be too much of an opportunity and he made 16 appearances for the Yorkshire club last season.
The pull of rugby at Birmingham Moseley has, however, again proved to be too strong and the dynamic back row has decided to make the move from Championship rugby to be a part of the clubs drive towards promotion.
Always a crowd favourite the signing of Buster will be extremely welcome to supporters, while being a strong statement of confidence in the clubs plans for the future.
Buster Lawrence said of his return:
“It's great to come back to Birmingham Moseley again. I'm very pleased that they have agreed I can return. It was an awful shame what happened last time when relegation forced some changes, but I believe Moseley has what it takes to be a successful club and push for promotion in the coming season.
The club has a special place in my heart after they gave me a chance at professional rugby and to make a career out of rugby for last few years. I owe them a lot and I would love to be part of what they have planned for the future and where they want to be.”
Director of Rugby Richard Protherough said:
“I'm delighted to bring Buster back to Birmingham Moseley. He will add a physical edge to our forward pack both in attack and defence. His work rate and athleticism will help us in how we wish to play next season.”
