I hope he does for their line-out what he has done for ours
that's basically what I said over on Rolling Maul
Proth has come up with some decent new names so far (and one coup) so fingers crossed we'll survive! Good opportunity for him (RP) to make his reputation as a head coach.
I'm actually quietly looking forward to next season already.
Wait a minute. LD has is coach of ENGLAND U20's and will be so in their Summer tour, I believe.....you dont get there for not achieving.
With just a few hours a week is that sufficient to overcome our ills in line outs. As I also said on Rolling Maul LD was most often screatching about all facets of the game to the on field squad or instructing replacements over the 80 mins as I usually witnessed from my viewing slot near to the Tech pitch side area. What goes on the pitch doesn't always reflect what they have been coached - come the 80 minutes of play- the players rule!!

The article states he joins with immediate effect. Does this mean Richard Protherough would now be our coach with Immediate effect and not next season.

Louis Deacon wasn't Kevin Maggs last time I checked

Oops. I should have said forwards coach but then he is director of rugby next season so can't be forwards coach I suppose. Got myself in a right muddle here.
I suppose we have to recruit what our budget allows us to. Losing Kevin, Louis, Alex, Jack and I've heard a few others is a shame but if we can't afford it, then so be it. I know some supporters think they should be more loyal and stay but we don't really know what situation each individual is in. Maybe they just can't afford to stay or may not have a part time job to fall back on or may just want to play full time. I certainly wouldn't want to hold back any youngsters who want to play full time rugby. We have made some very decent signings so far and have kept some great players too, but I have to say there are a few players I would want to keep next season. After watching last Saturday there were some players that had trouble just to run around, so unfit, I just saw them walking around. We defiantly need to be more physical in the tackle area and our set piece was 50/50 at best. We will need to keep some more key players like James, George, Drew and Ed. If we do that then we will do ok, I'd say top 6.
I don't want to seem vindictive at the immediate loss of our forwards coach - at least Kevin Maggs is honouring his contract - but in all honesty, I have not seen a lot of - if any - improvement in the Moseley line out this season. It seems obvious that Coventry plan to develop a forwards dominated style of play for next season, which is understandable considering that they already have a half decent pack, but can they afford their plans? Perhaps they have they found a sugar daddy to augment the income from their already impressive supporters numbers - 2700 at the Moseley return match alone - numbers Moseley can only dream of. One crumb of comfort is that Moseley - as far as I am aware - are firmly committed to playing within their means. Therefore we will survive. Will Coventry?
I have every confidence that Richard Protherough will build a Moseley pack to be proud of, just like his dad did all those years ago. I know he is not a former international like Kevin Maggs - and the Moseley backs have come on a bundle under Maggsy - but I would not expect Maggsy to have known the dark secrets of forward play that Prothers does. Although Moseley do have some sparkling three-quarters they have not had the pack in front of them to provide the front foot ball for them to shine as much as they should have and I would implore of them to look onwards and upwards, to raise the expectations beyond the end of the season and on to the glorious blue skies awaiting them. They have learned and gelled under Maggsy, to such an extent that it would be criminal folly for any of them to drift away in the hope of uncertain glory. I would say stay, continue to develop your skills, build on that what you have already achieved and look forward to a solid future with Moseley Rugby Club.
I also agree with boris that ... "some players that had trouble just to run around, so unfit, I just saw them walking around" ... a problem Moseley have had to put up with all season. I sincerely hope that Prothers will not tolerate unfitness in any form whatsoever, particularly from the forwards and that he will make it his absolute priority to build on Maggys foundation and make Moseley, once again, a team to be feared.
Come on Mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooose.

Make sure you do your homework before you imply that Louis has jumped off a sinking ship..... he is certainly not that character. Again I understand the club have not kept to their word with Louis.... I have it on good authority that the club stopped Louis staying at Moseley for the rest of the season. Let that sink in and say it aloud 'Louis Deacon is good enough to be the grand slam winning forwards coach for England Under 20s, butnot good enough for Moseley'. Strangely he's been picked up within 1 week..... Louis was held in high esteem from a players point of view. Currently there is only Richard Protherough as head coach, Tim Molenaar as player/backs coach and Chris Brightwell as player/ S and C coach. All of whom are doing their roles for the first time. Interesting times ahead..... Recruitment has been a mix:- Lewis, LeRoux, Crofts, Brightwell - great signings Boyce and Moore - potentially good signings King, Cowen, Molenaar- all long term injured It's more the loss of players who are moving on to championship clubs and local rivals that will bite.... and before people talk about loyalty, ask about how many times contracts were torn up last year by the club. That burns off a fair bit of good will.
To mock Deacons coaching of the lineout shows a complete lack of knowledge of what it takes to become a regular Prem player and international ,,more likely to be the calibre of player he was trying to coach ,,as for Coventry RFC , lets be honest ,they will always potentially draw bigger crowds than us , they are also very good at using their facilities to make money ,having Coventry RL , playing there too and it looks very likely that Coventry FC will end up there also ,and if I am correct its cheaper to sit in their stand than ours ,so lets not be too cocky just yet !
Cov also have the costs of an artificial pitch to finance! Some Rolling Maul contributors not too convinced of Covs recent expenditures - they say its been done before!!
Anyway how great we can look forward to the Local Derbies down there and up here.
Now lets upset Blackheath and hinder Hartpury please.
If we have allowed louis Deacon to go immediately, why did we not make a similar decision to let Kevin Maggs go, when it was decided not to renew his contract? I understand that promotion hopes disappeared some time ago, which left us little to play for in any material way, but nevertheless performances since xmas have generally been pretty dire. It looks like a pretty painful separation now and it cant be doing either party any good to continue with this.
markw........we dont know at all about LD's contract info with BMRFC so maybe the Club are in line with the agreement and are able to let him go now and as I say we do not know his financial reward for his work so we may have to be careful on this before commenting.
With regard to KM, before last season the Club announced on these pages that KM was to be DOR for 2017/18 season so, if this is the case more than likely, his contract expires at the end of this season. To me this meets all parties financial situations. 1. BMRFC have not had to pay somebody who is not working for the Club - as in from now to the end of the season. 2. Most of all the Club have kept honour of contract and so (this may have been mentioned at the time by the Club announcement of KM leaving) Maggsy has time to research and find alternative employment for next season especially in the rugby world when clubs quite often start to recruit new coaches etc at about this time (Jan-April).
At my age I have been made redundant 3 times from modern industries with 1 months notice. Its not nice and statutory redundancy payment is soon eaten up by the bills we have to pay etc for our families.
So I feel quite happy to say Birmingham Moseley Rugby have done the honourable thing in supporting Kevin. Of course we have to remember that the Club has changed its status away from full time so its not a matter of closing down.
Having said all that - I know nothing about the LD's or KM's arrangements with the Club just endeavouring to put another line of thought to other contributions here.
